Dear Frank O’Conner,
I would firstly like to pay my respects to Studio Head, Josh Holmes, who I understand at the end of this month is taking leave from 343 Industries to venture into the realm of indie games, and also congratulate the former Halo Community Manager Andy Dudynsky who I understand is now Senior Producer. On behalf of the Halo community, we welcome the new Studio Head, Chris Lee, and also the new Community Manager, Jeff Easterling. We hope to see them with future endeavors of 343 Industries. Now, let us dive right in to the reason I write to you today.
My name is Kyler Hunter, a sixteen year old Halo fan, and I write this letter to shine light on an idea that I, and many other people, would like to see happen within the near future. This idea is for the Halo community to become more involved with the people who create Halo titles; because I believe in the end, aside of all the hate for 343 Industries that has built up over the years, that fans just want to see Halo continue to succeed. So more specifically, the idea is for a Halo community task force working directly with you and your team to create the best Halo games we can. Were not just there to shout unnecessary hate rant like, ‘the guns look plasticky’ or, ‘the Master Chief Collection had bugs’. That’s not our style. We would rather give insight to what the community wants to see with future Halo titles. We want to build a dome of constructive criticism around the Halo community, so that when mistakes are made, we’re not just being bombarded by people telling us we aren’t real Halo fans because we support 343. I’m tired of it, and I’ve complained enough, but now I write to you with the intent of good will, and pure respect to the people of 343 and for the games they have mastered.
I am taking action upon this opportunity to enhance the relationship between the Halo community and 343 Industries. To give you a better idea of what I am proposing, I will explain this fan based team in a bit more depth. Primarily, we are there to support any Halo games you fashion in the future, and give constructive criticism on new ideas and past mistakes. Not all of us are genius programers, or 3D animators, but that is not why we are here. This team isn’t going to be directly designing the game, but rather throwing out ideas for campaign and multiplayer gameplay, along with structuring new games around past and present lore of the Halo universe. Just for an idea of what it will look like if we work with you, I’ve written a semi-screenplay for what collaboration in the office would be between the fans and the game makers. Here it is…
Great Relationships
Frank O’Conner -We are planning on implementing advanced movement in Halo 5 Guardians. How do you guys feel about that?
Halo Community Task Force - In what sense do you mean advanced movement? As in Titanfall wall running or something more simple like double jump?
Josh Holmes - As in we may want to add something like sprint? And maybe even a booster system. Ohh, and yes, definitely a ground pound and spartan charge. Why don’t we just go a step further and just make spartans float when they aim in the air.
Social Media - Halo is dead!
Halo Community Task Force - Alright guys. Just chill out for a second before everyone looses there minds. (And by the way, this is me speaking right now, no one lost their minds. In the end, Halo 5 Guardians is my fourth favorite Halo game ever. It is a blast!)
Frank O’Conner - Alright, what is it you propose.
Halo Community Task Force - K. Well, first of all, take out the spartan charge and ground pound. Those seem a little to excessive. Secondly, definitely keep the boost, that could actually work with Halo. But the sprint, we could have whole arguments on the sprint, but we’re gonna keep it simple. If you want it in, then your going to have to make the maps bigger, arena maps are too small to allow such fast movement. (Again, me actually speaking. This is an actual criticism I personally have. I like sprint, but the arena maps were way to small to cope with it, which was detrimental to gameplay.)
Josh Holmes - Okay, thank you for your input! We will look over your opinions and formulate our own.
Halo Community Task Force - Wait, before you go, we’ve come up with an idea for something called clamber. If you are near an edge surface, and you hold the A button, then you will climb that platform.
Frank O’ Conner and Josh Holmes - That sounds awesome, we are definitely implementing that. But you didn’t say anything about the float when you aim? (I liked clamber. It was nice.)
Halo Community Task Force - No… Straight up… NO! (Sorry if this is too informal. Just trying to throw a little bit of humor for sake of realism. And I don’t mean to be rude either.)
Josh Holmes - Alright, let’s make Halo 5 Guardians!
End of semi-screenplay
Now that we both have a sense of what this task force would actually be, because of that phenomenal semi-screenplay, now let us talk about who I am considering for this team. I’m looking at people, mostly famous Youtube creators who can send out information about Halo easily and efficiently. These people include: Halo Follower, Forge Labs, Late Night Gaming - Halo News, HiddenXperia, Ducain23, and other major halo players, Youtube creators, and halo fans. I think it would be amazing to bring together such great people and have them collaborate to make the best Halo games ever.
I don’t expect anything from you guys there at 343 Industries. I know your busy pumping out free DLC for Halo 5 Guardians, and getting ready for the launch of Halo Wars 2, so if you don’t find the time to read this, I understand. But if you do happen to read this, I hope you will consider the idea, and I would definitely like to here back and bring something spectacular together for the Halo community. I’ve seen 343 Industries do things like this in the past, such as bringing forge players at the beginning of launch for Halo 5 Guardians to create amazing community maps. Even if you don’t do something exactly like this, it may inspire you to bring Halo players together and ask them what they most want to see in the next upcoming title.
With the utmost respect, and love for the creators of Halo at 343 Industries,
Sincerely,
Kyler Hunter
