Every single time a new game is released, the community rages and backlashes about changes that are introduced. Halo 2, a game often hailed as the pinnacle of the franchise for multiplayer, introduced some drastic changes to the way the game was played. For those that remember, the health system, jumping, no damage when falling, dual wield, nerfed pistol, energy sword, etc. were all things that people cried about when the game released. This trend has happened up through Halo 4.
Here’s the problem, it’s getting ridiculous. I hated Halo 4 and Halo Reach, and I was right at the front lines in begging the developers to get back to the roots of Halo. Finally, 343 has heard our please, and is doing their best to create something both new and familiar. They are bringing a Beta an entire year before release, and do so with a message of “Please let us know if we’ve got this right.”, and the first thing people do is rage and b*tch. Play the game, then be diplomatic in your feedback, otherwise you’re just a fanboy that nobody can take seriously. We got a Halo 2 reskin last night, enjoy that and have patience and faith in where the franchise is heading.
Halo is at the tipping point, and 343 is doing their best to please old fans and bring new ones in. Halo 4 was a misstep, but they’ve asked for patience and have addressed most of our concerns. I have never seen a develop so concerned with pleasing fans before, and I think it’s something we take for granted. So, my plea is that fans be diplomatic and respectful, rather than raging -Yoinks!- and have an open mind about something you haven’t experienced yet. Let’s make the community a friendly place, albeit competitive.
