The year is 2001 and you just picked up your fancy new Xbox and your copy of Halo: Combat Evolved. You power up the system and pop the disc in and before you know it you’re already looking at the main menu.
The first thing that immediately hits you is the music - ancient, epic, mysterious - and this strange metal ring orbiting a planet. Displayed across the screen is the title of the game and only a few simple options.
Not only is this menu simple and effective, it immediately tells you the exact type of adventure you’re in for.
I couldn’t agree more. I honestly think that the Halo CE main menu is the best one. The Halo 3 menu being in an extremely close second place
It is a masterpiece when considering menus. Shame Anniversary editions changed it. Though luckily i can still play the original disc.

To be fair, you can still view the original menu if you play with old school graphics

The layout of everything was drastically changed, but you can still see the original background visuals that way.

I guess I need to go back and look. I didn’t think it did

Sometimes tight deadlines play out for better for this reason.

Yes, but first you always have to sit through part of a cutscene and the menu in CEA stalls more than it does in CE.

Does it really? I never had issues with the menu stalling on CEA. That’s too bad
I agree. The original trilogy nailed it, but there will always be something special at CE… I was happy when this was understood at the game’s remaster in 2011.
