If I remember correctly most spartan 2s especially at the beginning of the covenant war all wore the same type of armor,so why is the comic series giving them their halo 5 armor instead of what it should be from previous canon?
Its to distinguish them from each other,the same as in the Fall of Reach.
I think this is one of those parts of canon that are treated loosely more for the benefit of the reader than for anything else. Also it looks nice being able to tell spartans apart based on how they look and their colors instead of a tiny number they have on their chest.

Yeah,but from what I remember they all had the same armor until recently.I mean look at the opening cutscene in halo 4 with the Spartans engaging the covenant and they all have the same armor

I think its more of an visual change to make it more pleasing to look at,but the canon stays the same,meaning that in the canon all worn the same armor.

343 has been making changes like that and it’s so frustrating and jarring imo
