Guys, let me make some things clear. There are. No. Perks. Sites are just using that terminology to get people in an uproar saying Halo is become CoD. It’s all about generating hits. The “perks” are the new progressive armor system. And people, we’re not talking about ridiculous affects like Martyrdom or Overkill. We’re talking about smaller gameplay changes. For instance, buying a new chest piece might make you slightly more resistant to explosions, or new greaves will make you run slightly faster. Were talking tweaks to gameplay here, not overhauls. We’re not going to have some -Yoink- run around like a Juggernaut in CoD. Next, the custom loadouts. This doesn’t mean we’ll see people spawning with rocket, shotgun, overshield, 4x grenades, no. We’re talking the person will likely be able to pick from a choice of BR, AR, or the Covenant/Forerunner equivalents, what kind of grenade they spawn with, and what armor they spawn with. Yes, custom loadouts really means spawning with different armor, not so much different weapons. There’s still a very heavy emphasis on picking up weapons on the map. I know most of what I said is mainly speculation, but most of what all of you are saying is complete exaggeration…
I don’t know, it sounds like CoD to me.
I can choose a perk that makes me run faster, and more resistant to explosions in the Call of Duty games for example.
I can choose from an array of Assault Rifles to spawn with in CoD.
Exactly my thoughts on the entire thing. I’ve even gone as far as to give some theorized specifics on those abilities.
> We’re talking about smaller gameplay changes. For instance, buying a new chest piece might make you slightly more resistant to explosions, or new greaves will make you run slightly faster…
That is exactly how it works in CoD.

Some people just don’t understand. 343i would not make Halo like COD

Exactly.
You can’t really have perks without imbalancing gameplay in some way.

I’m talking about small changes. In CoD you can survive almost a direct hit from a SMAW with Blast Shield. I’m not talking ridiculous things like that. Small, multiple changes. CoD gives you three chances to change gameplay in your favor. Considering Halo has so many customizable armor options, I’m assuming you’ll get more than 3 options for perks. If everyone’s running around with 5 small perks, you’re BOUND to run into people that have the same perks. The way I see it, and maybe I’m really not explaining it right, but I don’t see it going crazy with changes.

The blast shield is not a perk.
Perks in CoD are things like Flak Jacket, which allow you to do exactly what you described, take more damage from explosions.
I’m going to elaborate on my theory for the abilities. First off everybody starts off with the default levels and all that. Depending on how you play (headshots a lot with snipers only, beatdowns, lot of shield recharges, take a lot of shield damage, etc) you will unlock more as you progress. Medals I believe will play a role in this more then we know. The medals earned could be used for the next level and the ability boost.
So, in interests of being fair it will match you up with people equal to your levels on your abilities. No COD level one versus level 80 15th (20th soon) prestige crap. The old Halo 2 symbols, Reach symbols, and 4 symbols (guessing on this one) could be used to mark somebody who has gone through and reached the max rank. They have reset themselves and earned a new symbol.
As an incentive for their work they get a prize. I don’t know what but maybe early unlock of one of the abilities or something similar?
That’s just my 2 cents on it.

How is this different from prestige?

But…Blast Shield is a perk…
Even if this is not a “perk” system, and it’s entirely based on what armor pieces you have…There will inevitably be “One kit to rule them all”. There WILL be one set of armor that’s a jack of all trades, master of none, that gives you an advantage in almost every situation.
That’s what I fear in Halo 4: Everyone running around in the same kit, and those who are not are getting slaughtered.
Example?
Armor Lock.

The said above plagues MMOs lol

It’s inevitable whenever you have a build system.

Oh, sorry, don’t play MW.
My point still remains, ignoring all the OP perks in CoD, you still have ones that are very similar to what you described the perks to be in H4.
All I know is that in Black Ops, the flak jacket perk does exactly what your example would do.
How is that not like CoD?

you didn’t post the entire quote instead you nit picked it. If you read the entire thing I said nobody will be matched up with somebody higher then them on the abilities they have.
I’m going to assume the ranking system and matchmaking system is going to have a way to balance this out. But honestly though, we’re only on this topic because the stupid media outlets named it a “perk system.” For instance, Battlefield. We have to unlock, for instance, the defib. Players who are higher Assault class levels have it unlocked, but we don’t call it a perk or say it’s unfair. You gotta unlock, that’s all. Frankly, I think alot of people are seriously overthinking this. I think we took what 343 said to literally. Just because we change 10 different aspects of our armor doesn’t mean we get 10 perks. I don’t know, I’m just almost certain it’s not what all of you are thinking. It’s going to be balanced.

I hope.

What the -Yoink- do you think perks are? What you described right there ARE STUPID -Yoink- COD PERKS THAT DO NOT BELONG IN HALO.
Let me guess, because they are chosen by dressing up your barbie doll instead of simply putting your -Yoink- perk in a slot it isn’t a perk system?
The only difference is the way they are chosen, otherwise they are identical and it’s still a moronic idea for Halo.

Read my last post. Honestly, this whole “perk” situation is a stupid bias, simple because people misleadingly called them “perks.”
