I’ve been playing D2 a lot lately and really wish 343 would release the restrictions on their coatings. In D2 you can shade individual pieces. The shaders are usually obtained by doing activities in the game or for bright dust(earned in game) or with silver(credits) if you don’t have the bright dust. I don’t think I ever spent a penny on shaders and have hundreds of them. They aren’t character specific either. My hunter, titan and warlock are vastly different than the armor cores in Infinite yet the shader can be used by all the characters.
343 really need to take a look at Destiny for the way they handle cosmetics. Their are ways to make money in free to play games and selling colors and base armor sets is among the worst of them. The only positive that 343 have done with cosmetics is release some stuff for free in the events. The way things are done need a major overhaul.

I would prefer they go back to how Halo used to be with color coatings. Have each piece be a different color, sure, but I don’t think it should all be Destiny shaders. I think instead, if they must lock colors in the battle pass, then they should lock special variants of colors, like metallics, pearlescents, iridescents, etc. In that case, you would be unlocking something cool that you may try on your spartan rather than trying to unlock that one shader that you hope is the one that matches the look you’re going for.
Actually they don’t,
343 knows exactly what they need do to improve the system, and just like Bungie with certain things in Destiny, they refuse to improve the system. 343 is more about forcing what they want on the player base to condition the player base to just to accept it among other things the way they are.
There is no “mistake” in their decision and that is where some of you really need to open your eyes.
