As of my recent return to Halo multiplayer due to my instability of having a Gold membership I’ve noticed I’ve been receiving multiple invites from other players to join their “clan”. I don’t like the term “clan”, but I will use it for this post until everybody is familiar with the terms. I like the idea of a clan: Join a group of players together to play Halo whether it’s for competitiveness, entertainment, or some other purpose. It’s a great way to build a community. Yet there’s still something missing. I personally am leader of my own “clan” the Dragon Squad. Even though we’re starting up and are still figuring things out I feel disconnected. I think the issue is “clans” aren’t actually an official part of the game. Clans are loosely put together due to clans existing over Xbox Live rather than through Halo. I’d love to see in a future Halo game “clans” to be part of the game, but maybe instead call them something like teams (ex: Majestic Team, Crimson Team, Noble Team, etc.) ? I’d love the ability to see your “clan” under the roster like you would your friends in Halo 4. I’d also love to see clan categories such as competitive, forge, entertainment, or whatever else clans may do. With clan categorization when players choose their clan they can see what type of clan they want to be a part of. With these clans in place weekly tournaments could be held between clans with a prize such as XP or an armor piece. I know there’s some flaws in this system that I’ve described, but this is only an idea. If you want to expand on this idea, are unclear about this idea, or want to point out any flaws and how they may be fixed please leave a comment below. Hopefully with collaboration from other players we could get this in a future Halo game.
no plz no clans in halo
You don’t have to be forced against your will to join a clan. I understand that some people are lone wolves and may perform better by themselves, but sometimes not all of the people you encounter aren’t the deadliest weapons in the arsenal. Especially when it comes to objective based games such as Capture the Flag. Communication and teamwork is usually an essential when it comes to winning these games. I’d take a team of people from my clan that I can communicate with any day over a random group of people.

Why not just have a coordinated group of people, why does it have to be a clan? My team and I eat clans for breakfast, so I see clans more for something fun.
A clan can be a coordinated team. Clans have multiple goals or purposes. Clans can be competitive, just for fun, or a balance of both. The main thing is for me I don’t have that many friends that play Halo and I always think playing with others is a lot more fun than playing by yourself. With a clan system incorporated into a Halo game I think more players would be willing to play Halo because they’ll be playing with a group of players that they love competing or having fun with. This could benefit the Halo franchise because players would be willing to stick with Halo even when the next action shooter like Battlefield or Call of Duty is released. In the very beginning Halo 4 had a large multiplayer population, but when Call of Duty Ghosts and Battlefield started coming out the population of Halo 4 players dropped dramatically. Because of the sudden decrease they removed playlists such as Dominion, Oddball, Regicide, etc.
I completely agree with Warmachine125V. I’m currently in a military-based clan. It would be so much easier to coordinate games with my clan with a built-in system as opposed to what we do now, accidentally spam our members with invites.
That’s a major flaw I’ve noticed with the clan system. With clans being loosely based over Xbox Live it’s hard to keep track of your clan members. The only way to truly keep track of them is to have them on your friend’s list, but even then they’ll be quick to leave. While my gold membership was gone and I had my other co-leader recruiting people he recruited 6 people. By the time I got back about 3 months later only one of them stayed and recruiting people seemed pointless.
