opinions on the ship that crash landed on i04? it’s interesting that the vented atmosphere matched that of the installation and in turn earth. the distress signal, silenced by 343, was also alien.
the ship must be extra-galactic in origin. otherwise the species aboard would have been cataloged by the forerunner prior to the firing of the array.
i found it to be the most interesting/mysterious of the terminal stories and wanted to hear people’s thoughts on the subject.
The 3rd terminal was just as weird, too.(That weird A.I. that Guilty Spark was talking to)
I think that it’s a Precursor ship, meant to send the Flood further into the galaxy.

Pretty sure the third terminal was the AI from the covenant ship.

Yeah, but the A.I. seemed very odd, and probably will make another appearance.

I imagine 343 could have detected a flood infestation aboard the ship. Additionally, there would be no need for a distress signal seeing that the ship been sent on what is essentially a one-way trip for the flood

Although, there is no way to tell if it was a distress signal or not since 343 couldn’t decipher what it was saying. For all we know it could have been a signal imbeded with a virus or something to compromise the defenses of the Halo, or to compromise 343 himself.

That’s a really good theory. What if the distress signal was never really a distress signal? Hmmmmmmmmmmm.
I always assumed it belonged to a pre-Covenant species, possibly the Jackals or another alien species that had the misfortune on crashing into the ring.
Then again, I don’t think 343i would go to all that trouble just for some random ship. Who knows?
Yeah, I’m thinking Precursor ship. But who knows what 343 are planning. Maybe it was Forerunner, a ship despatched to make sure that the Halo array had worked effectively, or to check that the flood hadn’t reappeared? I’m just guessing. Halo 4 will hopefully reveal all…

Then Spark would’ve known it was Forerunner in design.

Although, since spark was a fragment of chakas, he wouldn’t know pre forerunner-human war human dialect. And more than likely that info would have been erased from history by the Forerunner. Its then possible that it is an ancient human ship that was in another part of the galaxy during the war. especially since if you look at the writing it is similar to forerunner glyphs. But still different. Much like ancient humans were.
Im still at odds on what it could be, Spark said it seemed as it was a ship dispatched from a larger one, as the ship that crashed did not seem to have the capability for prolonged space flight.

Excerpt from Halo: Cryptum (shortened)
“…clumsy in design and completely autonomous…”
Most ships crashed into random (or perhaps picked) celestial bodies.
The only living thing found on those ships was “the powder”. I have my doubts. But it seems a little more than a coincidence that this unknown ship mentioned in “terminal 5” had landed accidentally on Installation 04. More or less the landing was that good, “…or this vessel may have lacked significant maneuvering capabilities.” So I guess that means the ship landed there on purpose (A one-way trip).
And the beacon on the ship was short ranged which means it was meant to give away it’s position.
