Halo: CEA low fps w/ classic graphics and online

Hey Spartans,

I’ve encountered a few performance abnormalities. In campaign, it runs significantly more stable with the new graphics enabled, pegged at 60 for the most but there were some stutters here and there. However, the real issue comes when classic graphics are enabled or online. In an empty custom match, I am seeing drops to around 45fps when statically looking at the opposite base in blood gulch. On the second mission “Halo” with the classic graphics enabled, it has dived to lows of roughly 35-45 fps and will stay there without going much over that when looking back at the escape pod from the ridge across the bridge. I have tried playing around with a few settings like v-sync, windowed mode and the framerate cap but to no avail. I have no issues with performance in reach or any of my other games. After encountering this, I installed classic Halo CE (and custom edition, all settings maxed) have not encountered any performance issues online or during campaign.

has anyone else experienced this or something similar?

system:

1070ti stock speeds
16gb ram stock speed of 1600mhz

Win7 64 bit professional

Bumping because my friend has the same issue. Everything is fine with anniversary graphics, but with classic graphics, on both multiplayer and campaign, fps drops drastically. Would love to see this addressed already, because all over the internet there’s zero clues on a fix.

He’s on windows 7 as well.

Interesting. When I go to classic I usually see a 10 fps boost or 20 I think on Anniversary Graphics I believe I get around 40fps when in classic about 60fps. Id have to check again though im pretty sure whats what im getting. I wonder why you guys getting less then what im getting…

Same. File a bug report. We need more people reporting this.

Same problem like EchoEchelon, what is your pc specs?

I know my computer old but it works mostly :stuck_out_tongue: lol

Umm not sure but is Windows 7 still supported by Microsoft.

I read this post earlier and decided to have a look I am running Win 10 Pro fully updated. I enabled Performance Metrics And kept a close eye on it playing in campaign Mode.

What I found FPS would only drop in Cut scenes to 34-fps from the 60 game is set at.
GPU load in Classic was a average of 45% Peaking to 70% from time to time.
GPU load in Anniversary was a average of 75% peaking at 90% from time to time.

I swapped back from Classic to anniversary ever 5 minuets or so and found no FPS drop ad described. FPS in both modes was between 59 FPS and 61 FPS unless in a cut scene.

OK just did a google and found this
Support for Windows 7 ended on January 14, 2020. If you are still using Windows 7, your PC may become more vulnerable to security risks.

I would have to say this is maybe why your getting the problems described.

Hey Alan. I do not believe it is Windows 7. As I am on WIndows 10 Home fully updated. I have notice a bit of lag on the game and also frame rates around 40fps on 4k in anniversary graphics. While switch back to Classic graphics I get 61fps. As for cutscenese not sure about classic though during anniversary graphics I got about 35fps. Still I could still feel a bit of lag going on. Perhaps from using a 4k tv is my guess. Not sure what the other guys above are using.

Note: Also notice when I turn like unlimited fps halo classic runs over 300fps while Anniversary runs around 80fps. Another thing Ive notice also depends on what mission sometimes fps are a lot higher. Though cutscene is a bit shakey.

They are having the opposite problem, Lower FPS in Classic and more FPS in Anniversary Kind of a backwards problem as one would think running Anniversary would put more of a strain on the system resulting in lower FPS than in Classic mode would.

ah. Ya that is a problem :S

W7 has nothing to with this, please stop spouting disinformation in order to cover for 343i. I do not have this issue but I know a lot of people that do, it happens on both W7 and W10, and on better and worse graphics cards than mine.

Win7 is still actually still being updated, just not as aggressively. I get updates for windows security and defender at least once a week. I’m pretty sure Microsoft quietly revised that decision because there are still loads of people on Win7.

If it was caused by 343 them it would be affecting way more systems If. Not ever game made will run the same on every PC some will have problems while others wont.

Several of the posts. prior to mine claimed to be running win 7 And I did not blame Win 7 but Said it May be a problem not that it was the Problem.

He does have a valid point. Sometimes a mix of hardware don’t play nice with some games while other mixes of hardware play the game just fine.

Make sure and file a bug report about this on the Halo Support site: https://aka.ms/HaloSupport

Be sure to read over the known issues list first before reporting

Done, thank you for the suggestion.

I have the same problem:
When I play HALO MCC CEA PC on remastered graphics, it runs at 60-65 Frames Per Second which is good , but when I press TAB, and switch to old (original) graphics the Frames Per Second just drops to 15-30, then I press TAB again and switch to remastered graphics and the Frames Per Second goes up again to 60-65 Frames Per Second , can someone help me with a solution to boost the Frames Per Second when played on original graphics. My spec: GeForce GTX 970, Intel i-5 2500k 3.30 GHz
Note that in Halo Reach I have 100+ FPS
If anyone have a solution please help

Same problem!!!
I can run the original halo PC release just fine!!

GTX 1060 6gb
16gb ram
i7 2700k

Well, it’s October now. Have any updates fixed this? This is the Windows 7 classic graphics performance bug that I found the solution for back in April. Told “343_farn” the solution in May on reddit.

The cause is a missing D3D11 feature “ConstantBufferPartialUpdate” in Windows 7 that can be easily worked around. But without the workaround, Halo MCC CE on classic graphics uploads ~1…1.5GB/s to the GPU. This does not happen on Anniversary graphics (oddly enough). One workaround is DXVK, with EAC disabled. The other is a special purpose API wrapper, with EAC disabled. The workaround is easy (to my knowledge), but I’m guessing the powers that be just don’t care about Win7 any more, even though it’s still on the Sys Reqs.
