I recently finished Halo: CE for the first time and I turned on anniversary graphics to see what flood Keyes looked like and I saw that there was multiple marine heads fused into Keyes, I was wondering if this was canon and how it could even happen.

Why limit yourself to them? Plenty of delectable Marines stranded all over the ring to choose from.

The whole creation of a Gravemind is very intriguing but also horrific at the same time. To the Flood, biomass (which is basically any living creature that is susceptible to Flood infection) is key to their progress to unite every living creature under a Hivemind. These other Marines that have been infused alongside Keyes likley had plenty of knowledge that was too important to the Flood’s efforts of escaping Halo to be wasted on Combat Forms, and so they, along with Keyes were used by the Flood for the basis of the Proto-Gravemind, destined to transform into Gravemind given time and biomass. However, as we all know, Chief made sure the Flood didn’t have enough time to do any of that by destroying the Installation and most, if not all of the Flood on it.
Yeah flood higher forms are made from infected organisms merging together. it’s a great concept that they added faces in the anniversary graphics, it really adds to the horror of it.
