Let’s get something straight here. In the most recent 343 podcast, Frankie talked about the word identical. He said how when Blackout wasn’t identical to Lockout (even though he said it was), people freaked out. People complained about two jumps with minute differences and the length of a ledge. So when he says identical now, he really means identical.
This statement really got me excited. But then, for a split second in the Halo CEA Announcement trailer, I heard this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEuCT3kSH_s#t=00m53s Did you hear it? The Assault Rifle? That sounds nothing like the Halo CE Assault Rifle.
Frankie talked about how they thought back with the Blackout/Lockout fiasco, that such minute things wouldn’t bother people. But then they realized that, for some people, these little things were the magic of their experience. Well I certainly hope that that footage and sound wasn’t final cut, because the way the weapons sounded when they fired - how they actually sounded like powerful weapons - was something special to me.
EDIT: Total Sellout has replied, all the weapons audio in the E3 reveal are placeholder.
> I honestly don’t care, but to give you hope it isn’t a finished version of the game and have said they rushed to put out a trailer for E3
I can understand why you wouldn’t care. But I think you have to acknowledge that there are little things that people really do cling onto. Observe: http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=27510354
For example, I couldn’t care less about driving into the ocean for endless hours on The Silent Cartographer. But when my friend found out, he was jumping for joy. Everyone loves Halo CE for different reasons, and that was his special thing about the game. Just stupid stuff like that. So we all have something we want in this game that we clung to.
Now that I listened the sounds more carefully, it seems like all the weapon sound files are from Halo 3. But I believe the pistol has the original sound. At least that’s what it sounded like in the another video I can’t seem to find.
Edit: I am talking about the Halo: Anniversary exclusive video.

Perhaps that means they’re just placeholders? I sure hope so.

As do I. The Halo 3 Assault Rifle sound was by far the worst IMO. And I hope they haven’t changed the Banshee sounds to the later versions. Out of the Banshee sounds in the games, I prefer the Halo CE one the most. Because it actually sounded like a fearsome vehicle.
I actually agree, The sounds of these weapons must stay the same an in the original Halo:CE. The Assault Rifle in Halo 3, ODST, and Reach all sound like a airsoft gun and sound nothing like a actually weapon sounds. DO NOT PLAY WITH THE SOUNDS 343, KEEP THEM THE SAME AS HALO:CE PLEASE!

>Reach
Uh, no. Reach has the deepest, most visceral weapon sounds in the series.
It’s even better than Black.
if they’re gonna change the sound, they’d might as well change the look of the AR in CEA. The assault rifle was a big part of the game (the most iconic weapon of the series), and to completely change its ascetics in a remake of the first game is like giving the finger to all the fans.
> All the weapon sounds in the E3 footage are placeholder. Rest assured, loving care is being put into all the new audio.
To quote the 9th Doctor: Fantastic! I can’t wait to hear the remade Halo soundtrack. Epic orchestral Halo: Combat Evolved? Where can I buy the soundtrack?
