The Halo CEA campaign graphics looks great, slightly improved from Halo Reach. However 343 hasn’t stated what engine is being used. The Reach engine was confirmed for MP. However the campaign is a mystery. I even heard somewhere it was completely new. However it definetly carries characteristics of Reach’s engine. So what engine is Sabre using? Did they open up the Reach engine and re create it with some other graphics engine? Or is it completely new? I think it may be testing for Halo 4’s engine like Halo 3 ODST did for Reach. What do you think? What is up with this new graphics engine?

NO, its the same engine of CE, but there is a second graphics engine that Saber Interactive were working on on top of the original.

No no, I mean the reskined graphics engine; what is it?

Apparently Saber Interactive created it specifically for this project… Regardless of what the engine is, the important thing is to see what 343 manages to do with it.

Most of what you’ll hear is misinformation.
Saber Interactive created this graphics-only engine to run on top of the original Halo CE engine. It’s not a full game or physics engine, it’s purely graphical in nature. This does not mean that they’ve created another game engine that they’re using for Halo 4 or any of that nonsense you’ll hear. It’s just for CEA, and it is most certainly NOT the Reach engine. They’re using placeholder assets from Reach, but that’s it.

The art style looks like reach though! I understand the guns and stuff were place holders but the art style is very Reach esque. Which leads me to believe that the graphical engine reskin is using Reach properties.

Seriously… what ELSE do you need?
Why does it matter to know what the Engine is? Forreal!
The game plays exactly the same, why does it matter?

God why so defensive! We never said the gameplay was different. Graphics are cool. I’m merely interested in how they were made for this game.
I’m not being defensive, more like agitated.
Just having a bad day, sorry.
I think it’s just Reach’s graphics honestly bro. They just did a few alterations to things that Bungie didn’t do with the engine. Thus, why it in theory looks better.
They always have to make something look newer/better then what was previously done. Every developer does this…

This.
Also, I’m loving the shadows in the campaign. Just hoping we can have theater so I can fly around and admire the graphics.

They stated in the Q and A with HBO that campaign would not have theater mode.
HBO: You’ve said that this game is using original Halo code - yet you’ve announced online coop. Have the additions to allow this been created completely separately, or are other portions of the netcode changed?
343i: All of the Reach extras - Saved Films, Forge, etc - are available for the multiplayer maps, but not for the single-player campaign. The coop code is separate, and allows 2-player cooperative play over Xbox LIVE, as well as via System Link and single-box Split Screen.
