HALO CEA CO-OP LAG

I’ve noticed this is has not been posted yet so I am taking the liberty of being the first. Has anyone noticed the enormous amount of lag when playing HALO CEA Co-op? This problem is mentioned everywhere except this OFFICIAL forum so here it is. 343 please fix this awful lag, it is severely disappointing to remaster a childhood gem, a masterpiece, a forrunner to FPS games everywhere and come to find out that it stutters so bad that I can’t even play it with my friends. Halo CEA lags in cut-scenes as well as in game and the controls are delayed to the point that its unplayable. We even tried installing it on the Xbox hard drive and yet the problem persists. Then changed hosts and still the LAG is unrelenting. So please 343, for me and the entire HALO community for us to trust you with one of the most beloved and massive universes in gaming history, fix this crappy server lag.

well, you are running 2 sets of graphics, easter eggs and skulls. dont even mention vehicles.

What do you expect?

I don’t experience the lag. get better connection or get a friend with better connection

They did a great job with the game. It is unfortunate that you are experiencing that but it seems you may need a faster connection for a smoother experience.

I am having the same issue with my game when playing with a friend of mine. Whoever has host has a smooth connection with no issues but the client, or whoever is not hosting, has serious lag issues. The game stutters and there is a big delay from when you push a button on the controller until you see that response in the game. I have been host and my friend has had these issues and we switched and he was the host then I had the issues. We have fine connections that are actually the best in the area so it is not our connections. Something in the game is causing it and it needs to be fixed, I noticed that the game is already at 1.1. I don’t know if it needs to go to 1.2 so soon to fix the issues but the game needs fixed.

Well, at least there’s always split-screen.

If you don’t experience lag you are the host…

I was doing a legendary run through with my friend having a good time but I had to stop after the second mission. The lag was becoming unbearable so I’m going to have to wait till I can system link or split screen which is kind of a bummer.

*Barely notice any lag now, although it could be due to the fact I now live in a city as opposed to living out in the boonies :stuck_out_tongue:

I noticed the lag and had to stop playing after the first board. I did not notice it as much when I went to classic mode.

Agree currently im trying to complete Coop Legendary Campaign with my friend but the lag dont let us play. We have completed a bunch of other games and we never had this kind of lag, so it cant be our connection.

This game was rushed out the door to make the anniversary date. Lots of people are having this problem and their ISP is not the issue. It’s ONLY in co-op in this game, other games run fine. I have tried it installed to the HDD and not installed, same problem. I’m running an older white 360, 120GB HDD, with the preview dashboard - I’m curious if people with Xbox slims are having the issue too.

I am having the same trouble with Lag too, I could’nt even walk right it felt like I was drunk!! even jumping was an effort. So 343 fix it soon.

Yep I’ve got the 250GB slim and decent internet and still getting the lag.

Incorrect.

We expect it to work. I can’t think of any time where it’s okay to say “well, the game may suffer unplayable lag in some cases, but it doesn’t matter because LOOK AT ALL THESE OTHER UNRELATED FEATURES - can’t expect everything to work!”. Two graphics engines do not affect the network code - the positions of objects are the same in either, and that’s what’s sent down the pipe.

> I don’t experience the lag.

Oh, then forget it. There’s no problem here, because it doesn’t affect you.

> get better connection or get a friend with better connection

Believe it or not, this isn’t always the answer when someone is experiencing lag. Bad netcode is a real thing that happens. I should know, I’ve written plenty of bad netcode. Notice that people having trouble regularly play other co-op games, and, indeed, other Halo games. So perhaps it’s not as simple as saying “get a better connection”.

If you’re not experiencing the lag, saying so does not
a) add anything to the discussion
b) help

> It is unfortunate that you are experiencing that but it seems you may need a faster connection for a smoother experience.

sigh

If you or a friend have the game saved to your HDD that can cause lag issues. Me and my friend found this out and now it runs perfectly fine in co-op.

I also experience this! My friend and I have extremely fast internet, it has nothing to do with my connection. It was kinda nauseating trying to play when I wasn’t host.

Hopefully 343 addresses the issue…

The coding is like 10 years old. To be honest, I’m surprised that we’ve even got COOP over LIVE.

I have not expeirenced lag in co-op yet and my friend never said he got any either maybe I was just lucky.

Post your upload speeds so we have an indicator of what connection is needed to avoid lag.

Really? Can anyone else confirm this? It does sound plausible…

Me and a friend were playing and getting really bad lag, we both have fibre optic connections so it shouldn’t be a problem at our end. We went into Reach and it was butter smooth, it certainly feels like this is an issue with CEA campaign.
