Halo: CEA and Networking

Before man walked the face of the earth Halo games had terrible networking. Now that man has leaped into the depths of space and traversed on her satellite Halo still had terrible networking.

With the release of Reach and the uncertainties that the year 2011 brings Halo still has terrible networking.

My question is simple: Will CEA and the co-op see improved networking? Halo has always lagged but campaign and Firefight have suffered tremendously in the Xbox LIVE co-op aspect due to this lag.

Will we see improvements?

Hopefully we experience improvements.

Reach has great networking…?

Play some Firefight or co-op campaign.

In reach if 1 only guy had a laggy connection, everybody would lag because the host has to wait for him.

I doubt we will have a problem. Playing 2 player co-op is usually absolutely fine unless 1/ or both of the players are actually lagging. It’s when there are more players, it becomes a problem.

I wouldn’t have thought it would need improvments.

It will use the same networking system. So no, you won’t see any difference in CEA compared to 2 player Reach Campaign and Firefight.

Play with a good connection and a good host.

Reach’s networking is one of the best.

Exactly. I’ve played hundreds of matchmade firefight games and 99% of them have been fine.

Most likely that Halo CEA will have laggy Co-Op, probably won’t be too bad with only two people. I doubt the net code was changed and according to Bungie, the “Campaign Lag” is something deep in the code of Halo’s engine. It’ll be a while before it’s fixed.

This is a big concern for me, It’s the only thing that can kill this game.

Firefight is a bit laggy in most of my games, but it’s not like it makes it unplayable.

Then you don’t play enough Firefight.

Yes, the networking is good but it can be a lot better. You guys don’t have to be vehemently opposed to making something better.

If you have lag problems in Halo Reach it’s your own internet. Unless you’re talking Firefight and Campaign, by which I mean it’s still an improvement on Halo 3 and ODST. But it NEEDS to get better. Especially for Anniversary.

If you don’t have lag problems in FF or Campaign, it literally means that YOU ARE THE HOST. And if your connection is good enough that will be all the time for you.

Thank you for agreeing with me. It does need improvement.

I’m glad I found this, last night I finally got to play Halo CEA and a 1/4 of the way into it, it started getting super laggy !! I started messing with the settings on my TV cause I thought it was that ? My buddy that I was playing co-op with said his was playing smooth ? My internet is very good so I thought it was the TV

This is not true because the host has to “slow” the game while it synchronises with peers.
