I recently purchased Halo Combat Evolved for the original Xbox to play on my 360. I have an official hard drive with the emulation stuff on it, and while the game technically functions, only a portion of the screen is shown, in a shrunken, fuzzy/ duplicated format and I have no idea what is causing this. Everything works, but I can’t even see where I am shooting, it’s just messed up visuals. Any help would be appreciated!

Is there a way you could post a link to a picture, or provide some sort of visual evidence?

I’ve taken pictures but I’m not entirely sure how to link them here. I’ll see if I can get them uploaded.

You can upload them to Imgur or Instagram and put a link here.

Thanks for the idea- Hope this works Halo CE Not Functioning - Album on Imgur
I’ve done my best to research this online but it’s occurred on two different copies of the game, so I don’t think it’s a damaged disc or something like that.

Whack. And all other games run normally on your 360? No TV issues with how your visual display is setup? Other Original Xbox games work on 360?

All other 360 games work completely fine, and the set up hasn’t been a problem. I don’t have any other Original Xbox games to test, but I have Halo 2 arriving soon, so I can test that. I’m not sure if I have a problem with playing OG Xbox games or it’s a problem specifically with the game. It’s just one of those things where it’s hard to diagnose the problem. Both copies of Halo CE have the same problems, and it’s only visual, no gameplay or audio errors.

You don’t happen to have an OG Xbox sitting around to test it on just in case it is the disc, do you?

Unfortunately not. I recently bought the 360 second hand, (everything is official and fully functioning) and it’s my first Xbox console. I bought Halo CE specifically for it. When Halo 2 arrives it might help out, as I’ll be able to see if it’s the console or the game not functioning.

Yeah, keep me posted using the quote feature. If I remember at some point this weekend, I’ll give it a try on my 360 as well to see if I can duplicate the issue for some reason.

Luckily after fiddling around with some display settings on my console and my TV, as well as some deleting things off of my hard drive, everything seems to have sorted itself out! I’m sorry for wasting your time, but hopefully any other unfortunate people having problems similar to this issue might find the thread useful.

No worries man! That’s what we’re here for. Helps that I work in a problem solving field so I try and suggest things I’ve tried in the past that have worked or inexplicably worked.
