Halo CE Multiplayer

Hey Guys, I’m looking to talk to the developers of Halo CE Anniversary. Not sure how I am going to do that, but if any of them are out there, I have some legitimate flaws with what I have seen online, and I’m going to do my best to explain them in this post.

Halo CE Multiplayer is what put not only the XBox and first person shooters on the map, but it put Professional Gaming on the map. Halo CE was by far the best first person shooter that has ever existed. If you do not agree, then you have to agree that first person shooters and companies like MLG would not exist in the same form if it were not for Halo CE.

With that being said, I have some serious issues with the fact that the Halo CE multiplayer was changed to REACH multiplayer for the Anniversary edition. I have been waiting for this game to come out on XBL since XBL was invented, and FINALLY, 10 years after the release date, someone finally got the initiative to put the multiplayer on XBL. The problem is, Bungie/343 is wasting their time if this game is not EXACTLY what the original was. I’m not talking about campaign. Campaign, as awesome as it is, is NOT why people buy FPS games nowadays. They buy it so that they can go online and play. I don’t think that people buy games today at $60 a pop to play against the computer in their basement. A Halo CE Remake should be the exact same as the original. It shouldn’t even be called a remake. It should be called a re-release with XBL capabilities, because that is all that it should be.

If 343 wanted to remake the campaign with a ‘full visual overhaul’ (which it seems like they did a fantastic job), then awesome. The project will be great as long as the original physics of the game were not touched. They weren’t. Great success. The PROBLEM is that they screwed with the only thing that made Halo CE what it was in terms of popularity, and that is the Halo CE Multiplayer. Lanning at a friends house by bringing over TVs, XBoxes, Network Hubs, cables, cords, pizza, soda, etc. is what gave Halo CE its popularity, but now it’s just REACH with Halo CE maps and a new coat of paint. I literally have not bought a game since I heard the ‘rumor’ from Joystiq over the winter in anticipation that this game was coming back out. Then I found out that it was just Halo REACH with jetpacks, swords, power-whatever it was called (by punching the ground), sprint, etc, and I canceled my pre-order and will not buy this game. I am the biggest Halo CE fan that you can find, and I am telling you, this game is going to do nothing but disappoint a vast majority of true, original Halo CE players. Everyone that I used to LAN with, compete in tournaments with/against, etc, have gotten in contact with me over the past few months being very excited about this. Once they found out that it was not the original, they were very disappointed as well, and canceled their pre-order as well.

The problem is that people are going to buy this game who are NOT Halo CE fans. This game may break records. This game may make the company/companies who created it millions of dollars. This game may get fantastic reviews. The problem here is that this game is going to disappoint the biggest, most loyal fan base of ORIGINAL halo fans that ever existed. PLEASE, SOMEONE, ANYONE, release Halo CE over XBL (even if it is just a stupid downloadable content in which you can play over XBL) and don’t worry about the graphics: don’t worry about changing anything. All the pure Halo CE fans want is to play Halo CE over XBL. Don’t fix any of the glitches. Don’t try to improve anything . Just leave it alone.

…It’s been explained 1,000,000 times why they used Reach. NOOOOO NET CODE FOR CE! They are going to remake it on the Reach engine. It will play fine.

I still play Halo: CE like it’s a new game. I love it, I think it’s the best Halo game. But I know that 343i can’t make it the Halo: CE multiplayer because of coding, and the fact that it’ll split the Reach population in half. It wouldn’t make nearly as much money if it had the original CE multiplayer.

What do you mean no net code? I’m not sure what no net code means.

The reason that CE’s multiplayer will never see LIVE is that it wasn’t coded to handle anything less than a system link connection.

Ever notice how badly Firefight and Campaign can lag over LIVE? Now, imagine that lag is slayer and CTF, at all times.

GoDang it! If you don’t know about Computer Programming, don’t try and make 343i out to look like the bad guys!

Did you know that the multiplayer code for CE was written in two weeks? TWO WEEKS! Did you know that Xbox Live wasn’t around back then? Now do you think that a code made in two weeks would be compatible with Xbox Live, 10 years after it was created?

The answers is, as everyone else has said, NO. The CE MP was created for LAN play, an environment void of lag, a place where there are no host advantages. CE MP would not work today, and people would complain even more about in now than they do about Reach because it wasn’t what they remembered.

Please people, stop making “demanding” threads for what you want, and just let 343 do their jobs…

Its using the reach ENGINE! thats IT! The ONLY similiarities it will have is the fact the the same weapon models are there (classic playlist)! do you even know what an engine is?

Now, forgive me for not know as much as most of you about all of the engines/coding, etc., but I honestly do appreciate your feedback.

One more question: If Halo CE was written in two weeks, then why can’t they take another two weeks and modify the code so that it DOES play over XBL?

Also, can Halo CE ever have neutral servers? Or is that not possible either. . .

They cant take 2 weeks and do CEs netcode again, it would take more than 2 weeks. They mainly arent doing it for two reasons:
they dont want to split up reachs players
its not cost effective

The only feature that is in the Reach engine is the MP. The campaign is the same code as the original, only with new graphics. That’s it.

What reach players are there to split up? That game’s population is garbage.

the few hundred k people that for some reason somehow like reach
