HALO CE, HALO 3, AND HALO 4 BC CO-OP ISSUE

Hey everyone,

I have read on forums and other online sites that people are having the same issue that I am, only I cannot seem to find any solutions (if there are any yet). I have had this issue for the past two - three weeks. My friend is playing on Xbox One (original release Xbox One), and I am playing on Xbox 360. We both recently bought Halo 1: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 3, and tonight Halo 4. As all are backwards compatible, we figured we would start out with Halo Combat Evolved. We have played other games that are backwards compatible (Left 4 Dead 2, Black Ops 2, etc) and have never had any issues with connection status, Xbox Live itself, etc. When we first started Halo Combat Evolved we randomly would get an error that read “An error occured while playing co-op campaign. Please try again later.” At first we thought it might be some kind of connection issue so we both reset our routers, re-downloaded our profiles, our games, etc. This did not fix it. We would play some missions and be fine, but 90% of the time it would give us that error message then kick us out of the game. We then purchased Halo 3 to play together. This also gave us the same issues. We were getting frustrated so we went to google. It turns out that a lot of people are having this issue, but there has been no solution. We purchased Halo 4 tonight, thinking maybe since it’s a bit newer it would be different. It was not. It gave us an error message “You have lost connection to the other players in the game. Please try again later.” It did that on every mission we started. We then tried Left 4 Dead 2 and Black Ops 2, and it did not give us any error messages. It is obviously a Halo series issue. I already contacted Microsoft regarding this, and they basically said it was an in-game issue and that the developers are aware of it. I haven’t seen anything posted by 343 to indicate that they are actually aware of it. The only solution Microsoft gave me was to request a refund for the games. Does anyone know exactly what is causing this issue, and if 343 are actaully doing anything about it? The only Halo game we don’t have this issue on is Halo Reach. I’m not sure if it has anything to do with Reach being backwards compatible before the other Halos were released or what. I’m hoping with enough people talking about this issue 343 will either respond to this or can announce if they are at least trying to fix this issue. Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a weird issue. You might want to make posts in the support forums for those particular games, if you haven’t already.

  • Are you playing split screen co-op, or online co-op? - Have you tried LAN co-op? - Does your Xbox 360 have a hard drive? Xbox 360 Halo games had special requirements with regard to the hard drive.

I am able to play split screen just fine. It is only online co-op with someone who is on the Xbox One. My 360 came with an internal harddrive; I’ve never purchased one. It seems the problem is just within the Halo games in general- the ones that were re-released all at once for backwards compatibility. Halo Reach is BC but was released beforehand, and we have no issue with that one or any other BC game we’ve played together. I can try to post on different forums; this was my first time using this site so I wasn’t quite sure where the best place to post was. I appreciate your reply, though.

> i dealt with the same issue. unfortunately the only fix I could find was to get a xbox one. in halo 3, you can play but missions will kick everyone out at random points, halo ce anniversary was unplayable and for halo 3 odst i didn’t try co-op campaign but firefight matches are fated to end at random, similar to halo 3. multiplayer is not affected just co-op campaign. i couldn’t find anyone to do vidmaster annual.

It’s a shame that so many players have had these same issues and no one seems to be addressing it at all. Definitely trying to get an Xbox One again, most likely the S since money is tight, plus there’s pretty good deals on bundles now. Thank you for your feedback though, I’m just relieved I wasn’t the only one with this problem lol.
