People have already modded in 4 player coop, but there are some things that need to be adjusted with the games, and netcode isn’t it. The netcode for COOP across all of the games is essentially the same, it’s a deterministic lockstep setup where the only thing networked are inputs, nothing about the gamestate is shared.
The real problem comes with accomodating the 2 extra players with more spawn points and quirks regarding BSP loading. Not an insurmountable issue, though. Also, Halo 1 and 2 Legendary skills are plenty difficult enough for 4 players, hell, they’re even more brutal than Halo 3, 4, and Reach, so balance isn’t really that much of a concern.
Is there a PC mod somewhere that someone has already been done on the MCC to allow 4 players in CE and 2 Campaigns (not talking about the original Xbox mod?).
I just found someone playing Halo 2 4 players on the xbox original mod on Youtube by user Edward850 recorded on August 20th this year. No one else has recorded this online that extensively.
It’s complicated due to memory limitations the Xbox consoles have. On the other hand, this could be possible for PC users.
There was a video from a YouTube showing a gameplay on Halo CE with 4 players. Works most of the time, but the framerate is terrible (since adding extra players requires more memory and GPU computing)
If you had some proof or even a way to replicate it for mcc as of now level editing is not as hard as i did this for the og xbox coop and so i could essentially do my best to replicate it here but i would need to bypass that 2 player limit. So if you know someone who has been able to bypass the limit despite the netcode issues ill make something work. I dont mind if i had to do this local or lan just to make the dream a reality
