The throwback slayer variant in Halo 5 with the glorious CE pistol is easily my favorite game type. At this point it seems pretty clear-cut that it’s never coming back officially, but does anyone know of any custom game lobbies with it? It seems pretty easy to recreate, minus the maps. If there aren’t any I’m tempted to make one myself.
Why would it never come back? This is the second time it’s been the rotational playlist in a many months.
Hopefully this throwback list or the Halo 3 list will each show up at least once a month.

I assume he means the one that actually plays like H1 without all the spartan abilities. I believe the current playlist has spartan abilities enabled.
The only playlist that I remember not having abilities was the H3 playlist, but that didn’t have the CE pistol in it.

And yeah, I don’t remember the playlist having abilities removed; I don’t mind them here, tbh, except sprint, but I’ll take what I can get, haha. I have a crushing M6D addiction.
I’ve played a few games and some people seem to not sprint on principle – the exception being a CTF scramble to return the flag haha. Thrust is actually neat as it adds a little more challenge to landing pistol shots. I find charge to be a little cheesy in CE context though.

Initially the abilities being present kinda rubbed me the wrong way. All these jumps and paths that weren’t possible in CE really threw me off jumping into the playlist. I guess now that I’m adjusted, it’s not so bad. Still prefer without abilities, but it’s more or less the same with them.
Love the game mode right now, wish there was more maps and modes for it but like others have stated ill take what I can get at the moment. The H3 throwback didn’t have sprint and Spartan abilities but again I wish there was more maps to it as well as game modes. Overall id like to see more of these show up in the playlists I have been having a blast.
So far the CTF game seem to be the easiest lol. Most of the opposing teams ive played just spend the whole game slaying so it makes for easy wins lol.
It’s pretty fun. I really would like a regular halo 5 4v4 permanent social playlist again though.
