All four games’ AI refuse to follow me, unless a specific script tells them to do so. (ie, stepping on the gondola on Regret in Halo 2)They will not move or follow me, anywhere. They will only move to attack nearby enemies.
Based on their actions, I think the follow-script itself is broken. When fighting, they will do their typical ‘spread-out’ and move around the battlefield while fighting, and the ‘move to X position’ scripts work, but when it’s time to default back to follow, it doesn’t work.
This is VERY game breaking, not just for people who want assistance in challenging areas, but also because they add depth to the gameplay, this feeling of not being alone, being able to fight the Covenant with friendly AI.
343 Industries, PLEASE fix this. This is the ONE problem I have with The Master Chief Collection, and while it is one problem, it’s a very big one to me, and I honestly think it should be amongst the first batch of fixes you are currently going through - after MM of course.
(This was edited from the thought that only H2A’s AI didn’t work, but I discovered ALL FOUR games’ AI are broken. I have editted this post in accordance with that new discovery)
I have also encountered this, seems like a huge bug that changes the way campaign plays. As a huge campaign fan this annoys me even more than matchmaking problems (which themselves are incredibly annoying.)
This particularly annoyed me in the Gravemind level of Halo 2. I liked to break the Marines out of the detention block and give them some carbines to see what they could do. Tried it now on Halo 2 Anniversary and once they go up the detention block lift after finishing off the reinforcements that came down, they don’t pause at the top of the lift like normal and fight alongside you. Instead, as soon as they’re up the lift they run straight through the door the Elites come through, before the Elites have even spawned, and after the first bit of fighting ends they just huddle around the planter in the first raised section on the left. I try and push one of them off the section to see if it would get them to follow me and they just run back up around the planter. I just like to see how much damage the Marines can do given a chance, even though most times they just end up dying to the Hunter pair, but they won’t go anywhere. The fact that they run straight to that spot as soon as they move up the lift is the suspicious part and makes me believe something is up.
Halo CE and Halo 4 the ai actually worked alright for me. But H2A its been downright terrible. I did notice that I did manage to get the ai moving right by flipping back to classic mode and leaving it there for a few seconds, but I only had that work just once lol.

Recently, 343I released an update fixing “campaign/UI/party issues”, I was hoping among those fixes was a fix for the AI. The AI isn’t fixed yet. Hopefully this post will bump it back up to the top of the forums, so that it can get 343I’s attention.
Never really noticed it untill i played the delta halo and regret mission. This is really annoying and immersion breaking for me. I love the friendly ai
They work for me mostly in CE, and they worked for me on Cairo Station in H2A. After that they stopped working entirely. However, they’re fine for me in Halo 3.
Also, sometimes for me they just disappear from existence. Not up to H4 yet
On a slightly amusing, but also frustrating note, on two different occasions I actually watched 2 marines in one level and 2 elites in another disappear just as I was looking at them lol. I’m not sure what all the patch last night fixed, but these ai issues should have been on there.
Assistance? They’re about as useful as a chocolate fire guard anyway so I don’t really see this as game breaking! I also can’t remember them doing this much in the original games anyway… Playing on legendary solo and doing just fine without these AI

They’re fun to have. But 343i failed to notice their existence
