Halo Bulletin scares me...major doubt arises.

“When designing the progression system for Halo 4, our primary goal was to give progress more meaning, and in order to do that, the player’s progress has to impact gameplay.”

No…just no. Why?

Why did the bulletin not mention the ranking system at all? That scares me even more. They could have said next time or something but it was completely left in the dark.

Progress with more meaning? I could care less how others progress. How about “I wanna continue to play Halo4 with meaning”.

Rank folks. It’s about how unique you can be from others.

It’s late. I don’t have time for a well thought out post here. This will do for now.

This is not the last you will hear about this.

/end rant

They didn’t leave it in the dark, because there’s nothing to leave in the dark. It’s pretty clear they won’t be having a ranking system, if they were they would have mentioned it by now to calm down those who care about it.

You have the competitive community in shambles. People not buying the game and a new thread over there is about to run rampant.

Can we get confirmation of a skill based ranking system bulletin please?

John: “Rank me…or fail me”

For crying out loud suck it up. You didn’t get what you want and that’s how it’s going to be. Quit bumping this stupid thread. It’s pretty clear the folks on this site don’t give a damn otherwise they’d be posting this crap all over the Halo 4 forum.

The games gone gold, you can have as many petitions as you want and it’s not going to change anything. If that makes you not want to buy the game then good, saves me having to mute another nostalgia whiner.

I don’t mean to be a jerk to highly competitive players, but why is the lack of a visible ranking such a big deal? Normally I find that visible rank divisions just create caustic divisions in the community.

On the Starcraft forums, for example, one can be ranked as Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Masters, or Grandmasters. I’ve seen Bronze and Silver players treated as if they were subhuman by higher-ranked players. Any time a low-ranked player tries to speak up about what they deem unfair about the game or give suggestions to change the meta-game or game balance, their ideas are ignored and they’re ridiculed simply because they do not belong to the cool kids club (now that I think about it, I played at a Silver-Gold level… no, I’m not butthurt at all :stuck_out_tongue: ).

I notice the same thing on the League of Legends forums. Low-ranked players say X character is too strong or too weak and they propose Y as a possible change, and they are ripped apart because they “don’t know the game at the higher levels” or are just “bad at the game” (in my defence this time, I’m pretty good at League).

I guess it’s annoying if there’s no tangible reward to be better than other players when everyone can achieve the same rank given enough time, but I often see these digital emblems used as a status symbol that people use to lord over other gamers. I’m not suggesting that every competitive gamer is an egomaniac, I certainly play to win most of the time, but this is something I see happen much too often.

Personally, I don’t see a visible, skill-based rank as an actual incentive to buy a game or not. Maybe it is for some people, but I often see it used to be a tool plenty of gamers use to make themselves a class above others. Frankly, I got sick of people bragging about being level 50 in Halo 3. I levelled up to level 40 in Lone Wolves and stopped mostly because I stopped caring. I still played Halo 3 for three years, and I had a lot of fun, but rank wasn’t an incentive for me to play. I’m a proud Colonel Grade Three, or whatever I got stuck on.

The visible rank thing only tells me, how much time you put in a game.

I doubt that very much.

A ranking system wasn’t mentioned in the bulletin because the bulletin wasn’t about a ranking system. It was about the Progression System.

sniff sniff they… they grow up so fast… I’m sorry, I need a moment…

I completely agree with Spearhead. Except for the whole, “if that makes you not want to buy the game then good” part. Spearhead still has a few lessons to learn about that kind of stuff.

Seriously OP, get the game. It’ll be fine. You’ll see, and when you get a SR-1 in a match and your a SR-17 or whatever, make sure to not smile when your looking at him down your scope.

There hasn’t been confirmation yet but people who are that concerned about a skill based ranking system could expect a whole dedicated playlist/ set of game types using this system.

I know I’m explaining Reach’s Arena but imagine something that actually works.

Guys, you do know this is about the progression system right? They haven’t even spoken of the ranking system yet.

There’s more than likely going to be a ranking system too… but this is just progression. I don’t know why people are freaking out already. I don’t think 343 would leave a ranking system out of the game.

> You are right no one plays halo other than for it ranking system, the campaign sucks, co-op sucks and matchmaking, custom games and forge suck because the only thing that ever made halo good was the 1-50. Hopefully for halo 5 and 6 they just focus on the 1-50 ranks and nothing else because as true fans have stated every thing else that halo has is terrible and should be scrapped. It would be a great thing if you were right then we would not have to deal with halo 5 and 6 because for all we know they might not have ranks to. Lets boycott halo 4 by buying a game that actually has ranks!

The. Game. Is. Gold. Stop signing stupid petitions because its never going to work. Stop being ungrateful whiney brats.

I love the progression system.

In Halo 5 all there will be in matchmaking is 1v1 1-50 and if you lose your banned from Matchmaking. The most competitive Halo experience to date

What you like a system that has the feel of old school single player games where the more you played and better you got you would unlock stuff. But that can’t be its 2012 and every competitive hardcore player just wants a number. Now while some argued with these hardcore people saying if you are good at the game and getting paired with people always in your skill range then it should not matter to you. While logic people agreed with this and realized not every multiplayer game has skill rank others just wanted to brag. But why, if you are good then ok but what does that number do? Why do you want a goal?

And yes both my last post and part of this post is sarcasm but it should tell you where I stand. I played SSBB and no ranks did not bother me at all because with that game you got thrown in, weather you win or lose was up to you, you did not see a number. The only flaw was the lag and Wii online system. Curse you Nintendo for making awesome games and not giving that much effort to online. By the way Still waiting for Mario Party online. Sonic Shuffle was to have online play but it got scraped due to development time and that was twelve years ago! Nintendo rant over, go Sega
