In this recent Halo 4 bulletin, it is revealed 10 maps will ship with the game:
quote ‘‘E3 attendees had the opportunity to get hands-on with three of the ten competitive multiplayer maps that will ship with the game.’’
Do you guys think this is a fair amount? For comparison:
Halo:CE - 13
Halo 2 - 12 (23)
Halo 3 - 11 (24)
Halo Reach - 14 (25)
The number of competitive multiplayer maps at launch (excluding maps from PC copies), and in brackets are the total number of maps with all relevant DLC. This means Halo 4 will have the lowest number of launch maps to date. I think as long as the maps are up to standard, this shouldn’t be too much of a problem.
But what do you guys think?
(Note: I’m sorry if anyone has already posted this or my info is not correct).
While it is true the game will ship with 10 all 10 of these will be competitive maps. This leads to speculation of a ground up map editor for forge as none of the maps will be used for forge…
As a comparison without forge reach had 8 maps.
I’m expecting many forge maps to come out post launch that will be great and be put into MM
Reach didn’t really have 14 maps. 5 of them were Forge World. In actuality, it only had 8.
The number of total maps is really irrelevant, though. We had our fair share of crap maps in the past at launch(Backwash, Isolation, Snowbound, Reach, Boarding Action).
Quality over quantity; Adrift and Haven already look better than anything we have in Halo 3 or Reach. Not to mention the 9 free maps with Limited.
10 maps ,20 maps it wouldn’t be enough for me.(I don’t want just any thing but a lot of good quality maps) I like variety. I do hope that the Forge is better and comes with a few maps as well.

Frankie said a while ago they aren’t counting forge maps in the total list of maps.

Backwash was DLC . . .
And still terrible . . . Lol

Ascension, then. And Burial Mounds.
10 maps at launch? In 2012? This is entirely unacceptable.
Big team’s probably going to get screwed again.

Both of those maps are awesome -_-

what makes you think none of the maps will be forgeable?

Battlefield 3 had 9, Gears 3 had 10, Modern Warfare 3 had 13.
Halo does look like it has the short end of the stick, but none of the games listed have a map creator. The limited edition come with the first 3 DLCs for “free,” anyway.

If you like cross-map lines of sight and minigames, maybe.

I hope not. I would like to see 2-3 purpose built BTB maps. Maps that allow for both ground and air vehicle combat. I don’t want maps in the BTB rotation just because they can support the numbers but rather maps that are built with BTB in mind.
10 maps at launch? In 2012? This is entirely unacceptable.
Big team’s probably going to get screwed again.
YUP. I posted this last week with the same concern. 10 maps means a likely ratio of 7 for normal Team Slayer and 3 for Big Team.
SIGH. The game should be shipping with a minimum 12 maps and would be even better if they started with 15.
For those that play a lot of Big Team, it’s going to get stale fast.

Dont all three of those have season passes and are taking advantage of digital distribution? Why bother giving you a full game when we just ship the other half of it in three months in the form of DLC?
You think maybe this kind of laziness and price gouging might have something to do with why videogames as a whole are dying? Annual releases, half the content we used to get, overpriced and frequent DLC…

I generally prefer team slayer, but the more big team there is the more cool vehicles and weapons like Spartan Laser we get. Sounds like we can expect vehicle combat to be terrible as well.

I’m starting to think you didn’t play Halo 2.

Well Battlefield has more of a “pay once, and you get everything,” but yes. The same is happening with Halo 4, no? Buy limited edition, and get the first 3 DLCs.
> You think maybe this kind of laziness and price gouging might have something to do with why videogames as a whole are dying? Annual releases, half the content we used to get, overpriced and frequent DLC…
So you have come to expect this? Why did you word your post like Halo 4 was coming with less maps compared to other titles this year?
> I generally prefer team slayer, but the more big team there is the more cool vehicles and weapons like Spartan Laser we get. Sounds like we can expect vehicle combat to be terrible as well.
There you go assuming things again. Why does 10 maps instantly mean little in the BTB department? For all you know, it could be 3 arena maps, and 7 BTB. Or even 4 BTB, 5 arena-style, and 1 map that could work with both.
10 is lazy and not enough, 12 would have been acceptable

I enjoyed those maps . . .
I thought they had a nice balance of close, mid, and long range encounters . . .
Pinnacle is NOT the same as Ascension . . .
> I’m starting to think you didn’t play Halo 2.
Ohey.
I just dislike those maps.
> Quality over quantity; Adrift and Haven already look better than anything we have in Halo 3 or Reach. Not to mention the 9 free maps with Limited.
Only Haven looks great. Adrift looks boring and more like a Countdown v2… not really good.
And this BtB map longbow looks not that hot too…
Hopefully the other 7 maps will be good too.
> Quality over quantity; Adrift and Haven already look better than anything we have in Halo 3 or Reach.
Disagree. Haven looks average, and Adrift looks just plain horrible.
