Halo : Broken Circle (New Halo Novel)!

Halo: Broken Circle

> Witness an untold chapter in Halo lore as John Shirley’s Halo: Broken Circle takes us to the dawn of the Covenant and the fateful first bargain between the Prophets and the Elites. Broken Circle will explore an Elite splinter group rebelling against the Covenant in its earliest days, a brave Prophet caught in the machinations of the new Covenant leadership, and the root of the betrayal that would ultimately shatter the Covenant during events seen in the blockbuster Xbox game Halo 2.

> Simon & Schuster is proud to announce a new Halo novel from John Shirley, releasing on November 4, 2014!

Oh yeah, this is definitely a must buy for me, Love anything that has Covenant in it and now we’re getting a Covenant only novel!

Interested to see if they would show the Reinfomist and Stoics conflict at all.

Servants of Abiding Truth maybe?

Did some digging on John Shirley and I’m optimistic about how he’ll do. He wrote Bioshock: Rapture, the prequel novel to Bioshock, and fans certainly seem to like his work and it is fairly well-received. He also seems to do his homework on the subjects he writes for, just look at this:

"This novel is a dramatization of the backstory of BioShock and BioShock 2. It is essentially a “prequel” to the events in the first two BioShock games. It incorporates information I gleaned in playing the games through several times and in consulting with designers, online sites, books, interviews. I also pored over background and timeline materials provided for me by 2K and by Tor Books.

The tale you hold in your hands begins shortly after Rapture was first conceived, and carries on, through Rapture’s civil war, into 1959. The main characters, and some minor characters, from BioShock are to be found here; characters from BioShock 2, like Sofia Lamb, and the Wales brothers and even Delta, as well as settings and historical details from BioShock 2, are also incorporated.

While we sometimes leap several years from one chapter to the next, the story’s arc is unmistakable, and is close as possible to the tale that emerges in the audio diaries, public address announcements, and radio conversation found in the game. It also incorporates consultancy provided by Ken Levine (through the conscientious efforts of Sarah Rosa). I drew terminology, large events, and characters from the game, but invented a certain amount of connective story and character background. I created a few new characters, as required in the composition of a novel, but never knowingly contradicted BioShock. As suggested by Ken Levine, the narrative’s chief protagonist is Bill McDonagh.

Most of the narrative threads begun in this book are resolved by its finale. A few are resolved within the games themselves. I was very pleased to be involved in adapting this unique, artfully designed game."

The guy seems like a winner.

@Decepticon Cobra: I agree! I haven’t read anything from this guy, but I may have to before Broken Circle comes out. He seems like a strong fit for the subject of the book.

Beautiful…

Saving up for the Console, the Game and the Novel now. This is gonna be tough.

The Covenant’s origin? It’s certainly an interesting aspect of the universe to explore. Especially considering how much 343 have been focusing on the modern era of the universe lately with Escalation and all.

I wonder if there’ll be any links between this story line and the H2A terminals that I’ve heard are to be focusing on Thel.

And Ronizzle526’s got an interesting point. This splinter group could totally be the Servants! It’d be nice to finally get some more info on them.

And boy it’s going to be nice to have a San 'Shyuum that’s not only a character but a character that’s going to be put in a positive light!

The opportunity to explore the cultures of the San 'Shyuum and Sangheili during this time will certainly be a good reason to pick this one up.

And the amount of questions regarding the Covenant that this novel has the opportunity to answer is probably the most exciting aspect of this announcement.

Anyone who actually bothers to research the story earns points in my book.

I was about to say that they’re more likely the Heretics from Halo 2 but a quick read at Halopedia proves that I’m very incorrect and Sesa’s rebellion is much younger compared to the Abinding truth’s.

I’ve noticed the similarity in the shell on the cover and High Charity. Perhaps a WIP of HC?

Okay, this is very interesting!

Both the writer and the theme are both absolutely intriguing to me, and I can’t wait to read this series!

I had a feeling it would relate to Halo 2 somehow… I sequels, though! I hope it’ll be good.

Now who is John Shirley?

I’ll take anything if it means a break from the Halsey-Hate novels we’ve been getting (though I did enjoy Mortal Dictata very much).

I should have made a bet with someone  Somehow I guessed that the next novel is gonna be about early Covenant.
I hope it is interesting to read.

Beast

Oh wow, that cover art!

Hopefully this will be as interesting as The Forerunner Saga.

This is gonna be REAL interesting. I really can’t wait!

I’ve always wanted to see more on the early days of the Covenant.

Well, looks like my theory that Halsey and the Spartans didn’t do jack to save humanity is even more correct now.

Hopefully this book turns out good. It’s nice to see another one off book thats not part of a trilogy.

I was wondering that at first too, but High Charity dosen’t include a spherical planetoid from what I can tell.

Another story about the Sangheili.

Shocker.

Oh well, although it would have been nice to give the OTHER RACES a turn in the spotlight, I guess that this is better than nothing at all. And it should be interesting to have the full story on how the Covenant formed.
