So, what exactly are the order of the halo books, ive been looking thro the web for a clear answer, never found one…
Here’s the best answer I can give you: read in order of release date. Start with The Fall of Reach and continue from there based on the date the next book was published. Some books have time jumps, others take place simultaneously… it just gets confusing trying to keep it all straight.
Furthermore, many themes and ideas carry over from one book to the next, regardless of where each book came in the timeline. So certain things will go over your head if you read in chronological order. Best example I can give is that you would be reading The Forerunner Trilogy first if you wanted to start at a chronological beginning to the Halo story, which would only serve to confuse the heck out of you. Worse than that, some parts of the trilogy take place after the events of H3, and the rest takes place over the course of a few thousand years. Honestly I’ve read the trilogy three times at this point and I’m still not entirely clear on the timeline.
The recommended read order is release order essentially.
