halo bad blood sets up alpha nines return

just finished reading bad blood and it feels like it’s a massive set up for the original ODST crew to make a return !
Now that would be way more fun than Osiris and characters most of us are quite invested in !
Fingers crossed it happens

Can they please just retcon rookie back in

I’d love it if they’d just retcon all the comics they made at this point. The Didact, the Rookie, Black Team, were all just completely wasted for… Reasons.

Seriously, the amount of wasted plots they made by killing those characters off is just depressing.

In the place of Rookie, a complete non-character, we have Gretchen, an actual character who has ties to the team (Dutch’s wife). I say we keep the blank-slate dead and keep her in the team.

I would love to see a spiritual successor to Halo 3 ODST that follows Alpha-9 during the war with the Created. Could be a nice side story game that comes between H6 and H7, assuming there are more main line games after H6 (fingers crossed!)

Well you can’t just bring a character who got shot in the head back.

-Yoink- no. Let’s never go back to silent characters.

What plot could possibly have been wasted with The Rookie, a character who is literally just a self-insert for the player, with no backstory, no voice, no name, no personality, etc.? I understand The Didact and maybe Black Team…but The Rookie? A literal nobody? There is literally no consequence whatsoever to keeping him dead.

Spartan Ops from Halo 4 was kind of a good idea, but poorly executed. But they could do something similar for Infinite. Have a side story about the ODST’s. I would play the -Yoink- out of that!

While I’m not going to argue the point of him being a wasted plot, I take offense to him being described as a ‘literal nobody’.

Go bother to read up on his backstory. It’s sparse, but it’s there, and he actually had a personality and history beyond sleeping, getting shot in the head, and doing nothing but grunting in pain. Includes surviving nukes, his unit getting destroyed twice, and generally having his namesake as “The Rookie” being wildly incorrect unless you are talking specifically about him being transferred to Alpha Nine.

As for what they could have done with him, ideas such as an ‘ODST 2’ style game or a return of Spartan Ops come to mind.

The general audience has no idea about that backstory, and including them in the games, unless they plan on doing page for page adaptations, will raise more questions than they answer. So as i said, there is no consequence to keeping him dead. As far as the games are concerned, once again, he is a self-insert for the player, in which you can swap him with literally anyone, and the general audience will continue to not care.

I wouldn’t count on it unless they are able to get everyone’s schedules aligned to make their appearance happen.

My read on Bad Blood is that we are definitely getting more of their story. As | DR HALSEY | points out, probably not gonna be a continuation that requires the actors to find time in the schedules to record lines. More likely we’ll see another ____ Blood book (maybe Old Blood, since the first was New Blood?) to round out the story as a trilogy. I could see us getting a comic series, mini or otherwise. And while getting them to record for a video game would be challenging, I could see 343 Industries managing to get the actors to lend their voices to a podcast in the Hunt the Truth format, or perhaps an animated short.

Really, I’ve felt for some time that 343 Industries should be looking at Alpha Nine if they want this franchise to enter the movie/TV realm, ‘cause names like Alan Tudyk, Tricia Helfer, Adam Baldwin and Nathan Fillion get peoples’ attentions. Bonus points if they could get Gina Torres to portray Gretchen (Dutch’s wife). Any opportunity to get more Firefly alumni in the same space.
