Halo Bachelor Party

So I’m getting married on June 24th, and my bachelor party is the weekend prior. I’ve been playing Halo since the very beginning, and actually met most of the guys who are going to be my groomsman playing Halo. So my one major request for the bachelor party was that beyond good beer and the like, that we get back into some good old Halo multiplayer. I would love to see this turn into something, but many of the guys I game with aren’t as into Halo as they once were. So I’m turning to the forums. Would anyone be interested in setting up a community play date sort of thing with me? I’d love to get something going. How do we do that? It’d even be cool to Twith/Beam Stream, I don’t know that I’ve ever seen many bachelor parties as a streaming event. I didn’t really know where to start, so I thought I’d start here in the community. Anyone interested in joining up?

This is a great idea. Will Cortana be there?.. don’t answer that… I’m in.

Very interesting idea. Like you, my friends don’t play it like we did back in the day. I’m down, just PM me some details the closer you get to it. And congratulations on your soon to be wedding, welcome to the club

.

So what did you have in mind? What kind of game types are you interested in playing? You mention the weekend prior to June 24th; that would be the 17 and 18 June, did you intend to have it on a specific day? What about time? Both duration and start time (and time zone?) If you want to run down some particulars I might be able to help out.

Hey, great, would love the help. I’m in Eastern Time Zone (Pittsburgh), and we’d be looking at the evening of Saturday 6/17. I don’t have a specific time at this stage, just evening, we can arrange that though. My friends who still play are more SWAT guys, I’m open to others, but that’s kind of the go to in my mind when you ask.
Any further thoughts? I’m new to planning anything like this, so I really appreciate the help.

All right, so Saturday 17 June 2017 time TBD. You will want to pin that down a bit in advance so that you can get the word out about it.

So wanting to play swat leave you with a few options; Do you just want to get your mates together and play matchmaking? Are you wanting to do this in customs? If the former things are pretty easy, you just have to get your pals on board and you’re good to go. If you’re wanting to it in customs (and thus have more people to talk to) you need to figure out a few more things. Some questions would be; How are you wanting to do it? 4 v 4, 5 v 5, 8 v 8. Small maps vs bigger maps (browsing the community creations page is a decent way to find maps that suit your needs.) Are you going to host or do you want a stand-in. Do you want to do a rotational thing where you and your mates take on other groups or are you wanting it to be more loose? What do you want the atmosphere to be? Competetive or Casual? Since it’s a bachelor party are you wanting to make a drinking game out of it? Are you wanting to stream it; that should be fairly easy with the beam thing these days.

There is a bit more to iron out, but we’ll take these slow since we have quite a bit of time (and you likely have other things on your mind.)

I would be interested in participating, However my timezone is +10hrs so that could be an issue, but do keep me updated with the details.
Congratulations!!

First of all congratulations. Been in this club for 20 years so far and loving it. Second, if life gives me the ok, I would love to participate.

Thanks for your continued help here. Yeah, we’d be interested in making it a stream event. Ideally, I’d love to see my friends and I take on other folks who want to play us, kind of the rotational thing you’d be talking about. I’ll have to secure the number of players, I have 5 groomsman (including my best man) and myself, though there’s only 4 of us that do Xbox, so the others may just rotate in on our accounts. I’m curious about the “host” / “stand in” options, we’d have to chat about that, I’m a little new to the idea of hosting, but I’m open to it. Additionally, I’m definitely open to doing it in Customs, I was kind of wondering how best to manage ensuring we actually got people who wanted to play with us playing with us, and since you say that, it makes sense to use Custom games to do that.
We’re getting some interest from folks, so having teams face up against us seems feasible. The atmosphere would definitely be more casual than competitive, I mean, we like a good challenging match, but we’re more in it for the fun of it. Just looking to use this as an opportunity to socialize and play with folks in the community.
I think we’d be open to the drinking game portion of it as well, I’ll float that with my groomsman as well.
Again, thank you for helping in the structure of this, and I wanted to get this sort of dialogue going. I know we have some time, but in my experience it takes a while to get things pulled together, so very much appreciated on my end to get this interaction going.

Thank you! Looking forward to it. and Congrats back to you, in my professional life, I’m a mental health counselor, so hearing about successful relationships is always great on my end. We’d love to have you involved, keep watch on the forum. I’m glad to see we’re getting some interest on this!

That shouldn’t be too hard to set up; it’s more about getting people who are interested to play the other side.

Basically, hosting is just being the guy to select the map/game type and control who is in the party. I was always a bit hesitant to do it for customs, till I started and realized it isn’t that big of a deal. By stand-in; I meant choosing someone who would host for you. That would have to be someone you trust.

Since you want to play SWAT; the host’s biggest task would be bookmarking the relevant maps (if you don’t want to use stock 343 ones.) So I would suggest you think about that for a bit. You should also think about what you want the weapons to be (BR, DMR, Pistol?) which one you’d prefer and if you’re going to mix it up.

It would allow you to control who you are playing against for the most part and if you run out of interested parties you could always use the browser.

That sounds like a good plan. There are some other interested parties I’m aware of that haven’t chosen to post here; who might be able to help/or provide you with a team to face.

Personally I’m a teetotaller myself; however most of the bachelor parties I’ve been to have run things like that. If you do that, I would suggest having making the rules clear at the beginning and making sure no-one had to drive.

I’m happy to help. I quite enjoy running customs and I’ve learned quite a bit since I started hosting my own regularly; so I’m happy to spread that around.

A little business is that multiposting uneccesarily is kind of frowned upon; you can edit your posts and quote multiple people in a single post. It’s not a big deal at the moment, but it’s somehting you should remember for the future.

Comedyshermit:
Thanks for keeping up with this all. I got a little busy for a while there. My groomsman are getting organized, we’ve started doing some practice runs, and are starting to narrow into game type choices. I’m trying to rally them to join in the conversation. We’ll see how that goes.

On my own end I wanted to clarify this here:

I don’t want to commit any forum errors (I’m really new to engaging in the forums, never really made my own post) , so does this mean quoting and replying to multiple people as individuals? Or using the quote option too much? Just making sure I’m clear.
All the best, and again, thanks for the help.

Just means posting directly after your last post. You can quote multiple people in a single post and copy and edit if necessary. Just a friendly heads up at this point.

Back on topic. It’s cool. Once you get a better idea of how things are going let me know and if you have further questions about hosting or stuff like that feel free to give me a shout.

So the arranged date for this is now fast approaching, and i was wondering if we had a finalized time yet?

CONGRATULATIONS SPARTAN! I hope your bachelor party is a blast! And may you and yours be Happy

We’d be down for promoting this via a Looking for Group post in the XBL club Halo Cooperative Gaming Club

Thank you all for the well wishes and interest. My groomsmen and I were doing some final scheduling discussion this weekend. I should have some answers here shortly. Thanks, too for the willingness to post in other groups. It’s all really appreciated!

Getting psyched for some old school “Fortress Digitalis.”
