Halo and Project Spark : Next Gen Forgeing

For those who don’t know Project Spark is a Game, about making games. its a very cool game editor that allows you to make maps, quest, characters, and much more. like seriously im only touching they very tip of the iceberg with this game, its freaking amazing. check it out : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOh6JXIlGQQ.

Now what does this have to do with halo? one thing really, Forge.

If 343 wants to truly upgrade forge or make it the best it can be, they should probably take notes from this game. if anything 343 could sit down and possibly talk with the developers at project spark. in fact one of the halo 4 developers made a game in project spark: Xbox Games, News & Reviews | GamesRadar+

Hopefully she took a few notes from this game.

So if forge is to improve and become a truly next gen map editor. 343 needs to take notes from the developers of this game.

Thoughts?

im very excited for project spark, and yes i believe they could be somethings that could be implemented into forge. But not many things because they are very different games with different goals/purpose.

As much as I enjoy the concept of Project Spark, I really don’t think Forge should become Halo’s map editor, Forge is fine as it is, it needs some fine tuning, and some features here and there, but I strongly believe that Halo needs a stand alone map creator, not a map editor like project spark built into the game like Forge.

Forge is great because it uses the scenery and map items already in the map’s file. Project spark uses all of the items in the entire engine, which is more like a Map Creator than a map editor.

Map editors are editors, you go in and edit the existing map.

Map Creators are creators, you go in and create a map from the ground up.

I also want to point out that Halo already has a map creator, it’s called Sapien & Guerilla, I’m not 100% if they’re the tools the Devs use, but it is the name of the “editors” for Halo Custom Edition and Halo 2 Vista.

Also, don’t expect Forge to be as powerful as Project Spark. The people who are making PS obviously devoted a lot of time and money into it. 343 needs to focus on much more than just Forge.

I think that a mod shop could really help Halo. Look at how Skyrim changed with mods. Tons of very talented people created content on par or better than what the devs made. A Halo dev toolset released to the public would do more than anything 343 could ever dream of doing.

microsoft wont allow it, they will lose money because of the map packs.

Yes please. Especially the Kudo base, scripting, physics and terrain editing.

As a map creator I have much more control. Terrain is my choice, texture is my choice, and possibly skyboxes and weather, are also my choice. That’s why I like map creators more than map editors, with those, I’m inherently limited. We shouldn’t have any limitations with the next forge, not one.

i dont think thats possible with so little time, the engines of games like halo are not so simple.

That all depends on what their Dev kit is.

If their Dev kit is more or less Sapien and Guerilla, then all they need to do is make a public release version, change a few lines of code to allow for custom maps.

Skyrim DLC still sold well. Require map packs for mods. Mods are not bad contrary to console player’s belief. Halo 4 already took steps for modding support and see no reason for it not to continue.

I wonder if I can make a Halo clone in Project Spark …

im pretty sure they are free on pc, and valve already tried to do it and microsoft said no.

the first person camera in project spark sucks

> im pretty sure they are free on pc

Yes, they are free, I think, BUT, that does not mean Microsoft is going to lose money from such a system being in place, they can make money other ways, and people will still buy map packs if they’re good, and a good price.

> valve already tried to do it and microsoft said no.

Remind me, when did this happen? Was it before or after the Xbox One’s massive change of policies?

If it was before, then I have this to say:
That was then, this is now.

If it was after, then I still say that there’s a chance.
