Nearing the end of Halo 1, namely near the end of the second to last level I began to experience issues with the automatic checkpoint that comes up. It wouldn’t save no matter how close I got to the end of the level. It worked better for the final level, but it also didn’t save at some significant parts. I was able to successfully beat the game, but I noticed when I started playing Halo 2 that it would not checkpoint when I played in that level except for at significant changes like moving to the next section of the level. The little checkpoints that should come along through the level did not. Any help on how to fix this problem and get it to save correctly again would be appreciated.

Try taking it slow. Sometimes if you rush ahead you will void a checkpoint. Sometimes it’s a hit and miss thing with checkpoints, either you get them or you don’t.
For me in ce, on the Maw, I successfully made it to the warthog, died somewhere along the run, then got sent way back to the moment where I was entering the maintenance bay to pick up a rocket launcher. I was furious. It was on legendary as well.
I’m pacing myself. Right now, I’m on Cairo Station and there have been parts where my shield recharged and I had killed some of the Covenant, but it still feels like the parts it should be checkpointing at are not.

What difficulty are you playing it on?

I see so these checkpoints are crucial to get. I looked around on the internet, there are forums which date back 2 years ago, and they still haven’t been answered. It seems that this might be a persisting problem which isn’t going to go away any time soon. The best advise I can give is to watch Nak3d Eli vids and Halo completionist who both give excellent advise for completing levels. If you know what to do, you won’t die, therefore won’t have to struggle with the checkpoint issue.
