Halo and COD Comparisons

I see a lot of posts and topics on here about who did what first and how copying other games happens all the time and features are features regardless of where they originate from. I want to explain, in my opinion, why these Game Informer leaks that make HALO seem like COD are so important.

Ok, so here are the main problems with the possible changes to HALO.

  • Spartan Ops? Perfectly fine, kind of silly to name it that when COD has Spec Ops and the name doesn’t seem original but that really doesn’t matter in the scheme of things.

  • Spartan Points? No problem, as long as these points don’t prevent me from being able to play standard halo where everyone spawns in with starting weapons and not power weapons.

  • Sprint Default? Some issues here. This seems like it’s copying COD because COD made sprint available by default. The problems with this is that in COD the kill times are so quick that you normally don’t get in to a fight and have to worry about someone running away. If they could get away, they probably could’ve done it without sprinting anyways. Sprint in HALO is an issue because of how easy it is to run and double beatdown, and also because with longer kill times you can often start shooting someone and then they just sprint away before you’re able to finish the kill. Essentially slowing gameplay down. Chasing the person isn’t a good idea if they have teammates around and sometimes isn’t really an option.

  • Instant Respawn? Could work with some tweaking. I saw that this will not be in objective gametypes and that is good, because that would be game breaking. If you don’t understand why, then PM me and I’ll explain. In regular 4v4 slayer I don’t like it either because of how often you could have an opposing team get shut down and immediately respawn to take advantage of the other team being low shields. Something you don’t have to worry about in COD. In big team battle I could see it being okay, but only because teams are generally so far apart and it generally takes time to get in to a fight anyways. Not a bad option, but not good in all scenarios.

  • Drop In/Out of games? Sounds ok in social gametypes, but if there are rankings in playlists I don’t want to get dropped in to a losing game, and the whole ranking system (if there is one) would be broken by this. So this could be ok too, but only in some cases.

There, that is a good look at most of the features COD has that HALO is apparently implementing. I don’t care if where there from, but some of those features fit COD for a specific reason and don’t fit HALO. That’s why I’m upset at the list of changes. I don’t care, like some people do, about who invented what, what is innovation, and what is copycat. Make a good HALO game with the important elements of HALO intact and I’ll be happy.

Perks/Armor Abilitie system hasn’t had enough light shed on it for me to feel like I can really judge it at all.

Thoughts?

I appreciate your un-biased (or atleast not blatant flaming of Halo=CoD) discussion on these matter, thank you.

I agree with most of the things stated here

Thanks for taking the time to read it. I mostly only play MLG and the occasional swat and big team battle. I’m just concerned the game won’t feel like HALO or be horribly unbalanced because there won’t be a beta. Hopefully 343 can squash my worries and make a killer Halo though.

Anytime, and sure some things may feel new or different but Im sure 343 will pull through to make it just as fun as always

Halo 4 sounds more like a Halo3 & Reach mix with 720p and the abillity to look thru walls … just weird and new.
And not like CoD.

In a good way

Neither have enough grenades

You forgot about the whole unlocking gameplay elements through a progression system.

I take it that is where the Spartan points are going to come in to play. I really don’t care if you unlock some weird armor abilities (that’s what it sounds like) because I don’t plan to use them. They’re not well balanced in Reach and slow it down for the most part. So if I have to use sprint that’s fine. I’m just worried you’ll unlock loadouts that are way too overpowered. Hopefully the traditional team slayer without loadouts is a playlist I can play from the start.

Since Reach was it clear that the same unlocking sh*t will be in Halo 4 :frowning: I mean what was bad at the Halo 3 Armor unlock system with doing things in Story mode. :s

I am not concerned with cosmetic changes to armor, but if you want more armor, go play some campaign and earn some credits that way. You unlock armor as long as you play the game in some way shape or form. Nothing to complain about there in my opinion.

Hah. When you get double-beatdown by some kid who’s sprinting around and finding you with his forunner vision, you won’t be saying that.
