Halo Alternate History - Infinity at Reach

Part 1.

Welcome to Halo Alternate History where we take the events of the Halo universe and imagine, hypothesize and discuss how differently things may have gone.

In this thread our discussion shall be focused on the UNSC Infinity and the Battle of Reach, specifically if the UNSC Infinity had been completed(with Forerunner engines, Huragok and all) a few years earlier and had been present during the Battle of Reach in July-August of 2552.

Do you think the UNSC Infinity could have changed the course of the battle? Powerful as she may be she would still be only one ship standing against two Covenant fleets and over 500 ships, including CSO and CAS class ships. Could humanity have saved Reach if things were different?

Lets discuss.

It’s like if a Space Marine was helping out on Reach. Things would go better on the ground but it’s just one marine. Just like how Infinity is just one ship. I would be blown out of space, but it may take a few more Covies with it.

What ObjectiveDust said.

Infinity’s primary advantage is its better than what the covenant has left after fighting itself and losing their engineers. The covenant at reach not only had massive numbers, but ships that rivaled or surpassed Infinity’s strength

Given its size, it’d have made a pretty high priority target and would likely be neutralized early in the battle. It might have bought more evac time at best.

I actually think the circumstances of being able to have Infinity ready at the battle would have had more effect than the ship itself. For example, this would mean humans would have already had some ownership of ‘true’ Onyx which might have resulted with better technology at the battle beyond just 1 ship.

  1. I like the idea of this style of thread series.

  2. Like the other two said, I think the difference made by the Infinity would have been negligible.

It might slipspace in, crash into one of the Carriers and destroy it. Probably take a couple more out, but eventually, it would fall. I don’t think there’s much at all that could have saved Reach.

Would reach have happened at all? Isnt it implied that reach was bait for operation red flag? With all the technology the infinity brings to the table operation red flag might have been given a go, even without a covenant ship. With the spartans sucessfully deployed on high charity, maybe the could have gotten their hands on truth/killed him and ended the war?

The Covenant knew about Reach’s location from the artifact Sigma Octanus IV. They would have found it, even if the Iroquois didn’t lead them there.

The Infinity is a big ship so it would likely be targeted first and sniped like the Trafalgar was. On that same note, it would do a massive amount of damage before going down. Because if you think about the end of Halo 4, Earth’s Orbital Defense grid was “ineffective” against Mantle’s Approach, yet the Infinity’s main guns(I still don’t believe they are MACs, they’re too powerful and look nothing like it) punched straight through it hull to allow the Chief inside.

Pre-Long Night of Solace, Infinity and Humans would of held off Reach successfully. Post-Long Night of Solace, it would destroy a number on the Covies but would fall without doubt at some point. Way too many Covies.
