To put it simply, Halo 6 should be the last major Halo game - at least for a while. Instead of making new games, 343 should attempt at long term support for Halo 6, releasing free DLCs for years after the game’s release.
HOWEVER
Halo 6 must have a wide variety of game modes and playlists accessible to players on day one. They must have a lot of gamemodes for players - both old and new in order to welcome a wide variety of Halo fans.
A lot of the best selling multiplayer games of all time usually have 3 things
- An established fanbase - A story that is pretty good (doesn’t have to be amazing) - Long term support for multiplayer with a good communityIf 343 nail down #2 & #3 (they already have #1) then I believe that they will find better success than they have ever experienced. They would see Halo return to it’s former glory, becoming the game that everyone is talking about. It could be a game admired by both casuals and tryhards, rather than exclusively by one or the other. By seeing what made former Halos popular, as well as other successful franchises, 343 will be able to see what they must do in order to #MakeHaloGreatAgain.
CAMPAIGN
The campaign hasn’t really got to be anything special. Focus on Chief and his personal struggles, but let Buck deliver his comedic lines when it fits. Do not mislead everyone with a fake advertising campaign, just show us what we are getting.
MULTIPLAYER
Free DLC for years after the release. Obviously, it will be funded by microstransactions. However, they must be as non intrusive as possible. Shrink the armour pool, and make some armours earned - this will allow players to set targets and actually earn something they want to earn. Make REQ packs limited to just REQ cards and cool things like the announcer pack. Don’t make REQ packs negatively affect the rest of the multiplayer experience!
COMMUNITY
Day 1 File Share, Forge and a working Theatre mode. The ability to share clips an screenshots with the community will make Theatre actually worthwhile. Those who make good content will get noticed, and Forge creations can go viral. The community aspect is vital, however I think 343 know exactly what to do here, but I don’t know if they will do it.
TL:DR
To make Halo a success, 343 should focus their efforts on Halo 6 for 2 or 3 years after its release. The campaign should be good, but it hasn’t gotta be a masterpiece. The REQ system should only give REQ cards, and armours should be locked to achievements, giving players long term goals to complete. By focusing on the community aspect of the game, they will be able to boost their success even further by making players feel like they are part of a community that they belong to.
I agree end it off good with the chief or kill him. Then if they want to do more halo games they should do spin offs like Halo Reach. Games that connect to the main franchise in a interesting way.

Don’t agree here. Armor is something cosmetic that doesn’t affect the game at all. In a way players should be able to wear whatever they want. Linking cosmetic stuff to a grind is just horrible in every aspect. I see how these grinds ruined Destiny these last few years (you can only unlock this armor/weapon through playing PvP and this through strikes and this through raids). Things like “paid carries” happened A LOT and people who felt the need to DDOS other players out of the game. Let people just play the games they enjoy and eventually they will unlock everything. At least for the cosmetic items.
I personally don’t like PvE in Destiny and I don’t like Warzone in Halo 5. I don’t want to be forced in playing these modes to unlock everything.
I like the randomness of unlocking armor in packs. What I don’t agree with is that things for Warzone and cosmetic items are lumped into one category called “REQ packs”. There should be cosmetic packs and Warzone packs. That way people who don’t give a -Yoink- about Warzone don’t get their packs watered down with weapons/vehicles that are only for Warzone and vice versa (I assume there are also players who don’t give a crap about customization and only want the most powerful weapons and vehicles for Warzone).
Oh yeah, customization should have REACH like qualities instead of the way it is now.
I do agree with the rest of your post. It would be nice to have one big perfect game that would last years with many free DLCs, game modes, expansions and great customization. I don’t mind paying a lot for such a game.
Halo 6 would have to be damn near perfect for that to happen…and 343i is nowhere damn near that.
Your shut your dirty face mouth! (I mean this jokingly and friendly
).
But seriously though, I legitimately hope new Halo games come out for the rest of my life. I grew up on Halo CE, and I’ll play them for a looooonnnnng time.
Unless halo goes into mmo/RPG approach it’s not going to last as a fps game. Kind of why there’s so many sequels to them, individually they don’t last or hold a large playerbase that long(you do have the occasional exceptions but honestly I think we’re long past those exception games). At best you get a few good months and then it slowly wittles down at that point till the next game spikes up interest again.
id be curious how long you’d even want the game to run without any sequel. A few years? 5 years? Longer? Anything longer than 3 is pushing it to me.
