Halo 5 has done a better job of this than 4. For one, the Air Space has gotten better.
Still, I can’t help the feeling the Halo Reach BTB maps feel better. I know at least they have more Airspace than Warzone maps. Attack on Sanctum is the only map that has nice Depth of perception and it has the best Airspace. They say ROP in the biggest map in Halo period, but it doesn’t feel like it. Warzone Maps don’t feel as big or have as much Airspace as say, Halo Reach Spire.
Anyone who thoroughly played Reach knows what I mean when I say, they had true BTB maps. Flying a Banshee around or Falcon in Reach, you hardly ever have to worry about Soft or Hard kill boundaries. You could fly the Falcon to where you hardly see a blip of a Spartan below you. What I also love is that Reach gave you soft kill boundaries for going under the Map with a flight vehicle. If you’ve ever been Plasma pistoled and had your Phaeton or Banshee fall under ARC or Noctus, you instantly explode.
Back to Apex, the biggest thing about it is that it has Huge chunks of Mountain cutting off what could be more traveling Space, but instead you have small Cave rooms. You can hardly fly your Banshee above the Spire pillars on both sides. Touching more on Halo Reach, it has a great feel of Infantry and Vehicular Space. They respected Vehicular space nearly as much as Infantry, Tanks and all. Forge world really contributed to beastly BTB maps.
What’s that Reach Forge map that had a giant Mountain in the middle where you could Reach the Top and fight there? That may be smaller than Apex, but it felt bigger and utilized the entire map. Every vehicle worked on it. One more thing, Reach big maps shined from not having people easily throw themselves at a Vehicle and Board like it’s nothing. Calling in Scorpion Tanks on Warzone pales in comparison to getting a Tank in Reach. In one game, you have to worry way to much about getting boarded, the other requires players to skillfully approach the Tank and give the vehicle user a fair chance at defending themselves. I think mobility and Radar doesn’t help something like a Scorpion Tank in Halo 5
