sprint is detrimental to Halo’s gameplay. Sprinting works just fine in a game like Call of Duty or Battlefield because those games are built around weak individual units. In those games, you can spray an automatic weapon at somebody from long range and kill them quickly. Therefore, there’s a need for a sprint mechanic to allow you to dart quickly to cover.
Halo never had strong long-range automatics until sprint was forced in. Now, we have increased range and effectiveness of automatics, higher aim assist, and stretched out maps. The game is being built around this mechanic at the expense of its identity for no reason other than “that’s what the other games are doing these days”.

Sprinting in Halo is a feature that the armor allows for. That’s why it was an armor ability in Reach, and that’s why in Halo 5, it’s only done with the assistance of the little thruster jets on your armor. Halo 4 didn’t offer any explanation for why Chief could suddenly do it even though he couldn’t before, just like how it offered no explanation for how Chief suddenly forgot how to dual wield.

Funny you mention that. If Halo 6 has sprint, I’m checking out. I’ve mentioned that several times on these forums. I want a Halo game that actually plays like a Halo game. If I want a game with sprinting, I’ll go play Battlefield or something where sprinting actually works with, and complements, the gameplay.
I’ll probably rent Halo 6 from Redbox to see what they do with the story. But, I will not own a copy if it’s once again a Halo game built around the sprint mechanic.
