Halo 6 Campaign Suggestion - Hit Scan NEEDS to go.

For those that don’t know what Hit Scan is. To put it simply, there is no projectile, if you have your reticle on someone or something. It will connect instantly.

This isn’t as much an issue for Multiplayer as it is for Campaign and Warzone. Hit Scan is a problem because the AI has superhuman aim. I could be sprinting, they won’t miss a single shot. I could be hiding and they could hit my foot or my head (if it’s a phaeton/banshee shooting) that is slightly poking out. Even Wraiths are a problem because if I’m in a vehicle like a Scorpion Tank which can be a pain to to turn sometimes and isn’t very fast, you’re going to get hit, and if you just get out of the way by a -Yoink!- hair, you still take damage because of AOE damage. The AI can perfectly aim with the Wraith, it’s able to shoot you out of the sky if you’re distracted. The AI’s Aim is impossibly perfect. I think this is the reason friendly AI was added, so you can bait the enemy AI. But the friendly AI is more stupid than Forest Gump. He would at least have the sense to run away from danger, countless times I’ve seen the friendly AI run right into certain death, just to heal you. It’s like playing the Sniper Alley in Halo 2. Only every enemy in Halo 5 is better than those snipers. On the lower difficulties, it’s not a problem. Heroic and Legendary is where Hit Scan can really bend you over the table and screw you.

The enemy needs to miss. The way Hit Scan is being used, it’s artificially increasing the difficulty to the point people are looking for ways to skip parts of the game.

I agree with your points, but haven’t AI wraiths always been super accurate? (At least in ODST firefight)

I didn’t know it was because of hitscan, I thought it was just because the projectiles move hyper-fast. I hate this because it actually punishes you for fighting on the move, which was how you are supposed to play Halo games.

They did make a few too many weapons that can actually track you…suppressor, bolt shot, hunter cannon

You do realize most of the weapons used by the enemies happen to be projectile scan, right?

  • Plasma Pistol - Storm Rifle - Needler - Brute Plasma - Boltshot - SuppressorEven the Light Rifle when they use it can miss you and go right past you.

And @bold, that has nothing to do with hitscan. Their aim depends on your momentum, so they can perfectly lead their target (you). If you don’t take predictable paths, a Wraith can almost never hit you. It’s easiest to see when you’re in a Wasp or Phaeton, they’ll be super inaccurate as long as you’re moving sporadically.

so turn the difficulty down then, this is nothing new, AI in EVERY game are always impossibly accurate marksmen on the hardest difficulty. heck in games like borderlands even on the lowest difficulty arrows can be shot at you from across the map and hit you while youre moving.

No, they are firing at you. I know this because the AI can perfectly stick you with a plasma nade consistently. In a game of Firefight as I was trying to kill a boss, a elite hiding behind bosses manage to stick me 5 times. same spot every time. i wasn’t moving much but i couldn’t get a shot on the elite. they are aiming at where you are when the weapon is fired or thrown

No, they’re firing at where you’re going, especially vehicles with slow attacks like the Wraith. Otherwise you could move in a straight line and enemies would always miss because you’re no long standing when they shot.

If you’re not moving, of course they’re firing at you. You’re not going anywhere, you have little to no momentum in any direction.

And regardless, that still has nothing to do with hitscan. Plasma Grenades are still projectile scan because…you’re throwing a projectile.

That… doesn’t change the fact that they are aiming at where you will be as opposed to where you are. If you hide in one place, not moving, you aren’t going to be anywhere but there, causing them to aim where you will be: that single position.

I acknowledged this is my original post by mentioning specific instances where this can be a problem. Besides, you’ve missed my point and I really hate people who get stuck on something that is irrelevant. The fact is that if you have any sort of momentum, that should help you but in most cases, they can hit you no matter how fast you are going.
All the weapons you mentioned in the list (except the storm rifle and the brute plasma rifle which isn’t even used by AI anyways), have an added feature. They all have tracking ammo. So your argument with those being Projectile Scan doesn’t work because the AI is able to perfectly Aim them meaning the only thing to stop them from hitting you outside of being out of the lock on range is the environment.

this is where I’ll answer you because I’ve been playing Borderlands 2 a lot recently. Borderlands 2 uses different types of weapons with different firing speeds and the AI can miss you pretty easily. The problem with the AI is that it doesn’t miss and it makes it really hard to use cover. The AI in Halo 5 only needs to be able to see the tiniest bit of you for it to be able to hit you. The aim of the AI is unbalanced unfairly which artificially makes the game more difficult. Warden Eternal has so many attacks that follow you and when he uses the basic attack, he will more than likely hit you. If you were on a ghost, boosting through the area, you would expect a phaeton’s beam to be chasing you but somehow it perfectly hits you. My point is that the aim is too perfect, even for legendary. you ever wonder why people playing halo 5 on mythic avoid fights. In every other Halo game, unless it was a speedrun, fought through the game

Hitscan mechanics are never a problem from the enemy unless they’re using a hitscan weapon, which is very rarely, like when they are using Human weapons. Those are truly hitscan and there is zero dodging them when an enemy uses it.

When you have momentum it does help you, but it doesn’t completely save you because the AI chooses to shoot where you are going, not where you are standing.

Seriously, go up against a Wraith in a flying vehicle. It basically tells you everything about how the AI works. It perfectly leads its target no matter how fast it goes, but once you move sporadically, it can no longer hit you. Ever. Your momentum now produces inaccurate results.

On a lesser scale, you see this with Elites with Storm Rifles, where their bullets go right past you, and even Plasma Casters and Fuel Rods, where they lead their targets and seem to always get a kill, but their targets are just moving in a straight line.

If you had a Rocket Launcher and had to hit a moving target, would you shoot where they are, or shoot where they are going? That’s what the AI does, or else the AI would never be able to hit you unless you were standing still.

The Plasma Pistol only homes in when charged, which enemies rarely do. I’m pretty sure some Elite Bosses use the Brute Plasma Rifle in Firefight. Prometheans have homing weapons, but at the same time they rarely use their weapons at their max rate of fire until you’re dead, otherwise you’d be unable to fight just one of them. Can that be tweaked? Sure, but it’s not gamebreaking or anything. Enemies miss less on higher difficulties.

> this is where I’ll answer you because I’ve been playing Borderlands 2 a lot recently. Borderlands 2 uses different types of weapons with different firing speeds and the AI can miss you pretty easily. The problem with the AI is that it doesn’t miss and it makes it really hard to use cover.

Most bandits, robots, and soldiers all end up using guns that have roughly the same bullet speed. Even their grenades are simple with short range and a long fuse timer which makes them hardly a problem. The only time it’s different is when they’re using an explosive weapon or a special ability. They can hit you quite often when you’re moving.

Nomads are even smart enough to tell their troops to push you out of cover with grenades as soon as you enter it…

> Warden Eternal has so many attacks that follow you and when he uses the basic attack, he will more than likely hit you.

You mean one, his homing ball? He only has like 4 attacks and 2 of them are melees, which depends on your hitbox. His laser goes in a straight line. It doesn’t follow you, he just accurately leads you every time. If you were in a Ghost, Wasp, or Phaeton you can quite easily dodge it.

> you ever wonder why people playing halo 5 on mythic avoid fights. In every other Halo game, unless it was a speedrun, fought through the game

In every Halo game its easier to avoid fights instead of deal with every enemy on LASO. The Iron skull is on that can ruin your run, Black Eye is on that rarely lets you regenerate shields, Famine is on which gives you half the ammo and Mythic is on that gives enemies twice the health.

Halo 2 LASO the Jackal Snipers aren’t even the worst of your problems, it was the Brutes.

I don’t think it’s feasible for them to use different mechanics for multiplayer and campaign and since hit scan weaponry is far superior for multiplayer, it doesn’t make sense to remove them from campaign. Not all the weapons are hit scan, the wraith mortar for instance is a projectile weapon. I don’t have many issues dodging it. I agree it’s fairly ridiculous to be cross mapped by elites with storm rifles, but the issues would seem to be better handled by reducing the accuracy of the AI slightly or reducing the effective range of the weapon in their hands.
