Halo 6: 2018 or 2019

We’ve been told there won’t be anything relating to Halo 6 at E3. Which seems to have a lot of people saying that Halo 6 can’t be released in 2018 and won’t come until 2019. The rationale is that we saw teasers for Halo 5 during E3 2014 a year before that games release and we were told it was coming during May 14. Since we haven’t had those rumblings people assume that Halo 6 isn’t coming and we won’t see it until October 2019.

Now I find it hard to believe that they will go four years without a mainline FPS Halo game. Some games like Battlefront will have had 3 games in that length of time. Is 343 really going to step for another year when its competitors are putting out games and engaging with their customers. It would be suicidal, people will go on to other things. There was 3 years between Halo 4 and 5 which is quite a big gap actually; I don’t see why they would need to push that.

What people seem to forget is the context of those teasers. It was two years after Halo 4 and there wasn’t anything going on. They had to put something out on what they were working on. So they teased Halo 5 over a year before it was released. But remember they have only just released Halo Wars 2 and fully intend to support that game with DLC up until the end of the year. Notice that Halo 5 support dried up once HW2 came out. 343 obviously don’t want to divert peoples attention away from HW2 with any Halo 6 teasers. Because they have a recently released and active game out, they don’t have as much reason to tease their next big release as much.

Plus the Halo 5 teaser at E3 2014 was really a trailer for Halo 2 Anniversary. Sure it had a bit of Locke thrown in, but it was really a marketing ploy to kill two birds with one stone at a time when they hadn’t released a game for a while. Also Halo 2 Anniversary did not have any DLC. 343 wants us to buy DLC. It doesn’t make sense to tease a product coming next year when they have stuff they want us to buy from HW2. But in 2014 it made sense to kick off the hype train early.

So I think Halo 6 not being at E3 2016 is purely due to Halo Wars 2. We are probably going to hear A LOT more about Halo 6 once they wrap up their DLC plans for HW2.

As much as I want Halo 6 to come out as soon as possible, 2019 would allow for an excellent contingency plan should the game require some further fine-tuning.

The trend of most next gen games has been to release polished but pretty bare bones; the game then gets updated with DLC. This was how Halo 5 worked and its more or less seen as a big reason for player retention. Plus, given that Halo 5 multi was generally well liked I am not expecting them to tear apart their existing multiplayer like after Halo 4. That probably takes up the vast bulk of testing and game development.

I mean 4 years feels like a very long time. 3 years is arguably a long time compared to other triple A games never mind 4. Sure you have Halo Wars 2. But in interviews they make reference to “separate teams”. So Kevin Grace has little to do with Halo 6 and vice versa. Plus, it was a collaborative effort with Creative Assembly; so it didn’t consume too many resources.

I would be very surprised if the Halo 5 DLC took up that much studio time. I am guessing the guys who work on the engine and core mechanics you start off with are not going to be involved in reskinning assault rifles. Plus, if Halo 6 is mostly just an upgraded Halo 5 this kind of doubles as developing Halo 6 since they can work out any lingering kinks and introduce new weapons. For example they mentioned that the Goblin was an idea they had for a “future title” but they realised it was feasible to have it in Halo 5 so boom.

Basically I am not expecting Halo 6 to need that much fine tuning. I am expecting them to up the graphics and add more content.

That or they’re in development hell with Halo 6 because they need it to work on the Scorpio and Xbox One.

This is just the optimistic side of me but I believe they’re doing everything they can to learn from Halo 5 so 2019 gives them ample time to release what should be released.

I do get that it’s a long time, it seems like CoD is releasing games all the dam time and same with Tom Clancy’s. On the other hand though, Battlefield takes years as well and it works for them. I’m not to down on the 2019 release if they don’t completely drop Halo which will IMO, in turn let it completely die.

I would prefer it to come out in 2019. No need to rush the game.

Battlefield was only three years. BF4 came out Oct 2013 and BF1 came out Oct 16. BF4 itself was rushed on from a BF3 released in 2011 and that if we all just forget Battlefield Hardline (2015) existed.

Destiny seems to be aiming for three years and so is Battlefront. 2-3 years seems to be the comfort zone between keeping customers engaged and making the game playable.

Let’s pray that Halo 6 doesn’t go through its own “Valve Time” like Half-Life 3.

3 years isn’t rushing the game.

Halo 5 got 3 years and look at the campaign. I can wait.

Most of those 3 years wouldn’t have been spent on the campaign. Multiplayer and the actual engine would have been the focus. Plus the campaigns quality was more a question of intentional design and story decisions rather than it being buggy or broken. Mechanically its a pretty solid and well designed linear corridor shooter. It only takes a few seconds to make a bad decision, not three years. More time wouldn’t have made Halo 5’s campaign any better.

Yes it would, more planning and thought given to the warden eternal encounters. Level design, writing decisions. It would have been better. I want a campaign I can go back to and play, I would rather them delay the game if it means getting a wicked campaign.

I can only imagine how bad H5’s population will be if H6 is released two and half years from now in 2019 and we’re currently only getting minimal content updates as it stands now. I’ll definitely be playing other games if that happens.

If Halo 6 isn’t going to be mentioned at e3, I don’t see how the game can be releasing next year. Seems way too soon. I think there will be a game in between Halo 5 and 6.

Indeed. We’ve hadn’t had a decent FPS spinoff like ODST or Reach. I’d prefer to ignore Spartan Strike and Spartan Assault entirely.

The achievements for the phone version of spartan strike too are driving me up the wall. It’s so sensitive and I can’t even use a bluetooth controller (which I specifically brought to play the game lol). That mega bloks game looked pretty good.

Too bad it got cancelled, though… Y’know, that game could’ve taken notes from Skylanders or Lego Dimensions in regards to interactive figurines that would become playable characters. Can you imagine how awesome it’d be to play as “yourself” by assembling a figurine that looked like your Spartan from any of the mainline games?

I have dimensions. I love it to bits (no pun intended) however I’ve probably spend over £400 pounds in that game buying all the necessary figs to unlock achievements. It is expensive as hell. Plus I don’t think it’s selling that great when you look at the amount of achievements unlocked. It seems to me these games have a small population base however get lots of funds through the same suckers like me who go out to buy the things when they are released. If I’m being honest I like the concept, however I don’t want to keep splashing the cash out. I would rather have a game like Lego batman 3 where you buy dlc content which is much cheaper in comparison over buying individual sets which cost a fortune.

You aren’t wrong here, no doubt about that. Certainly a fancy gimmick than anything, but it does attract a particular niche among kids or serious collectors. Even so, I would love to have a Mega Bloks mini-me (complete with Railgun) running around on my desk.

That would be cool. It would be cool if mega bloks did a thing where you could make your own spartan based on Halo 5.

If that were to ever come to fruition, Mega Bloks may have to take notes from the 3D-printed Sandboxr statues. Of course, being Mega Bloks, having a special (and poseable) figurine of yourself would be a lot more affordable and accessible to all ages. I worry about the cost of shipping for such a small thing, though…
