Halo 5's Subtitle

I’m sorry if this has already been discussed before but I haven’t seen anything about this recently. I personally don’t like the subtitle to the game and yes while Halo 1 had “Combat Evolved” as a subtitle I think that is different because it was the first game. A friend of mine suggested that 343i may phase out the numbering system after this game similar to what ubisoft did with Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag with its release sequel dropping the numbering system. What do you guys think?

Keep it, it doesn’t hurt anything and probably has deeper implications in the game.

Keep it
without the 5 it feels more like a spin-off… without the subtitle… it kinda gets boring only title them with “1”, “2”, “3”, “4” “5”… in future there would be Halo 20

the Subtitles gives the game a topic

I think your friend is right that they may soon drop the numbers altogether in favor of subtitles. I personally don’t really care one way or other, although I tend to agree that something like Halo 10 would just be stupid.

Agreed. The only games that can get away with ridiculously high numbers are Japanese ones. Western ones that do it get accused of milking.

Well I do think that the numbering should definitely stop when Chief’s story ends

Drop the number when we reach 8.

I voted “Meh”.

I’m calling Halo 5, with or without the subtitle. And the subtitle doesn’t hurt it at all. Just makes it sound… cooler, is that the word I want? Anyways, as long as it’s a main Halo game, it has to have the number. Add subtitles if ya want, I like them in all honesty. But the number has to stay if it’s the next main Halo game.

I’m tired of numbers. I like just having the subtitle. Halo Guardians sounds amazing to me.

I don’t like the Guardians part really, only because I feel like I was beaten over the head with it for 2 years or so with Destiny, The Green Lantern, The Guardians of the galaxy…waves arms frantically you know what I’m saying?!

Just to put of ignored information. The majority of Halo titles had a subtitle to it, only Halo 2, 3 and 4 did not.
You had Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo Wars, Halo 3: ODST and Halo Reach.

So that’s a 3:4 ratio, from that I don’t mind if Guardians is there, I kinda prefer the name really. But say if the ratio was 7:1, then I’d find it a bit dumb to be inconsistent.

ODST was an Addon, Reach, Wars and Spartan Assault were spinoffs. They aren’t part of the core series, hence the need to distinguish them from it. (Think Resident Evil. You have a buttload of spinoffs like Code Veronica, but the main games remain regularly numbered.) The only core series Halo game with a subtitle was Combat Evolved, and that was imposed by Microsoft, Bungie itself never intended for it to have one.

Regardless, that makes the ratio 3:1, not 3:4/3:5.
