The story for Halo 5 is so bad in so many ways that it severely damages both what Halo 4 built up and the potential for Halo 6’s story. Even if it means delaying Halo Infinite I feel like we need an update to Halo 5 that completely replaces the story with a new, better one. Sure this would be a massive undertaking, but wouldn’t it be worth it? I just don’t see how Halo 6 can repair the damage that has been done. It’s a damn shame…
Way to late for that… If you want to see the stuff from Halo 4 wrapped up you have to go to outside media in the books and comics.

Deep down I know it’s too late, but one can dream! Man this situation is so depressing.

Well maybe they will wrap up H5 in outside media like H4 and give Halo Infinite a fresh start.

I doubt it. That was a huge complaint people had with H5’s narrative; that you needed extra material to fill in the gaps.

They could remedy that by putting in a good intro scene in game and/or terminals to give the cliff notes so to speak on what happened.
Though I do agree with you it is to late in the games life to Change the campaign
I wish they redid the story too, even a DLC with a few missions to complement the story would be enough for me. I don’t think it’s too late, considering we might have to wait two more years before Halo Infinite, a story DLC would keep people playing Halo 5 for longer.
Id rather not see a redo & it just be forgotten about, move on & learn from the multitude of mistakes that were made. Hopefully infinite doesn’t follow in the footsteps of H5s writing.
What would be the point? The damage has already been done, most casual Halo fans have likely moved on and lost interest, and it’s only gonna make 343 look worse if the new story is also bad or worse than the original one.
The best they can do is clean up the story as best they can through Infinite and then have a great campaign.

I have to agree, while I don’t think the story is as terrible as many are making it to be (though I admit it is far from what we were expecting); I believe that Halo 5: Guardians was executed rather poorly. I have heard that this is in part due to a swap in story choreographing leads midway through the production (but take that as you will as it might just be rumor). Simply put, we were told that this story (or at least, it was insinuated anyway), would be somewhat like Halo 2 where we would spend some missions playing as Osiris’ Locke, Tanaka, Vale, and Buck, while others we would be playing Blue Team’s Chief, Linda, Kelly, and Fred.
Problems that persisted are that:
-
there simply wasn’t enough Blue Team missions and that left a wave of disappointment to hit the community. It’s likely there were more Blue Team missions planned, but because of whatever reason that they changed the story at the last second, many of them probably had to be scrapped due to breaking the plot they had to swap to.
-
It was insinuated that as Locke, we would be hunting Chief and Blue Team, and as Chief, we would be running from Locke to find the truth about something. So, Locke was hunting for the truth about Chief and Chief was hunting the truth about something else. It was speculated that we would, in the end, have to fight and kill the Master Chief. (This makes me worry, because in the trailer where Chief is AWOL, a reporter states that the Master Chief was presumed Killed in Action as of October 27th, 2560, about two years after the events of Halo 5, so I am wondering if that was an accidental leak leading to the true date when the Chief might meet his maker, or if it genuinely was just a mistake as the correct date she was supposed to say was October 27th, 2558 (which is when he went AWOL to find Cortana). Part of me believes it’s a mistake because Spartans, specifically II’s, are to never be listed as KIA. Especially to the general public. They can only be listed as WIA or MIA.)

It’s funny that you mention that he is presumably killed two years after the events of halo 5 because I recently found out that there is a date in the Halo Infinite trailer that suggests that it also takes place two years after Halo 5.
If you don’t like Halo 5’s story then you should interpret it in a different way to something you enjoy.

Kinda hard to do when the writing is bad in a way that leaves little for interpretation. Honestly I think that just taking a story you don’t like and interpreting it differently is first of all easier said than done and secondly it’s just a mind set that I don’t understand. If I don’t like a story I’m going to explain why I don’t like the story, talk to others about what they think of the story and create discussion in order for the developer to take notice and steer the story in the right direction. Your approach seems to be if a story sucks then just deal with it and try to make yourself feel better about it.

No, what I meant is that you can create your own version of Halo 5’s story from interpretation. 5’s story is very rough but people like to create their own stories which they prefer. I personally don’t like or dislike the story.

And that’s what makes me worry, as a fan of Halo, it would break my heart to kill the Master Chief or watch him die. Not to mention, killing the Legend is no easy task, and I don’t just mean for whoever might end up killing him. Do it wrong and the fans will not be happy in the slightest. (Which, lets face it, there’s very few instances where the community would accept Chief’s demise.)
You have no idea how much I like that idea especially after loving Halo 4’s story so much. Unfortunately it’s too late for that. Hopefully Halo Infinite will be a lot better than what we got in Halo 5.

The beta is coming out late 2018-early2019

There hasn’t been any confirmed dates for when the beta is likely to drop, but I wouldn’t look for it this year
What I didn’t like was that the campaign had 3 missions with no action, (talking to various npc’s) and out of the 12 “real” missions, 9 of them you played as spartan locke. It would have been better to have 2 separate campaigns (10 to 12 missions each) one for chief and the other for locke.
