Halo 5's Sprint and Shield Mechanic Worries Me.

On Halo 5 we obviously all know that, when your shield is down and when you sprint your health will not recharge. I really don’t like this… People might say it makes it balanced but no it won’t if anything I think if you get hit pretty bad you should get slowed down when you try thruster pack or sprint.

Halo needed sprint into the game I am an oldschool Halo fan too! But what the hell a Spartan can’t run? Cant use any abilities? Or anything? Oh yeah except from the overshield and camoflauge orb.

Let me know what you think!

I’ll bet it does worry you.

The major problem people had with sprint in H4 was that people who were losing a firefight would sprint away and let their shields recharge in the meantime making them able to not only live where they should’ve died but re-engage the player who was previously winning the firefight and possibly even winning.
Taking away that recharge while sprinting makes it so that if you decide to run away you won’t be able to immediatly re-engage your assailant as he now still would have the upper hand.
Also I do believe you’re still slowed down when struck while sprinting, don’t know for sure though.

I was worried too. But after playing the beta, I’m totally cool with it. It works quite nicely. When I see someone sprinting around while their shield emitters are flashing yellow, I know they’re vulnerable until they stop for a bit. Also, when my shields drop, that fight-or-flight instinct kicks in, and I have to be aware of where everyone is and where to flee or I take my defeat guns blazing.

It’s a lot of fun (I think).

Also, I have to add: with the maps being bigger to accommodate mobility, it seems to even out with no-sprint. In Halo 2 on Midship, the map was compact enough for you to run away and duck behind and around things while your shields recharged, but I could always keep up and fire at the same time. In Halo 4 you can do the same only while sprinting. But I can also sprint. The problem is I can’t shoot while sprinting. So I can’t really catch you the same way.

In Halo 5, if I sprint after you and sacrifice my ability to shoot, I know your shields won’t recharge. So your options are to either turn and fight, die, or run to your teammates for help. Whereas my options are to yell at my teammates to cut you off–that’s if they’re listening–or just let you go because I know I may wind up in an ambush, or hope that I can chase you into a corner.

So, it has pros and cons.

“NOOO, you aren’t true MLG. You must be punished for your mistakes, so you can’t just run away like a noob”-343 complainer
BTW, I don’t really care, but some people say stupid stuff like this.

lol. People do say stupid things a lot.

I most certainly am not MLG. I love Halo 2. And I love Halo 4. And I like that they’re different.

You are. Also, if you’re being shot, sometimes it makes going into sprint difficult. Like you click in the stick, take a step, then take a round, and it knocks you out of sprint.

I liked the new sprint mechanics. It’s much better than halo 4, it makes it feel less like cod and more like halo.

I’m curious as to if the mechanic will translate over into campaign.

I wish I got to try out the beta, I was going through a lot at the time but yeah. Atleast people like the new mechanic, from what I heard it sounds fine to me now.

A spartan should be able to run. All the time. Whilr being able to shoot.

I kinda like it. It makes sprint a risk/reward type deal.

but there not and they dont not even in canon. Spartans sprint in universe, but in order to gain a full sprint that mean the whole body is used. This is includes both arms. Spartan can movie extremely fast with weapons drawn but the human body must use the whole body to sprint and get the most speed.

Science of sprinting

In terms of a tech explanation I am not entirely sure why shields would not be able to charge because of sprinting. In terms of gameplay I found that the beta was fairly more balanced than halo 4 with this new feature.

I agree. I like Sprint and some of the abilities. A Spartan should be able to sprint and stuff. A Spartan is a super soldier of the future they should have abilities and stuff. Imagine if some one asks about Halo and you say oh you play as a super soldier of the future battling aliens. They ask cool what can you do. And you say walk, crouch, jump and trigger pull. Really that’s all a super soldier can do? I am glad they are making your game more immersive and realistic. Your in battle and your fighting but your never in a big hurry you will walk there…loved the way Halo 4 plays in mcc and loved the beta. I liked the sound of the tweeks they are making. It’s sad to see some of the self entitled gamers now who seem to think game studios should cater to their every like and dislike. Some need to learn to deal with it. There have been good and bad things in every Halo game made.

Is this English?

They should’ve just left Sprint OUT.
All this trouble trying to make it work… it’s laughable, really. So convoluted, and the end result is still something that is still worse than not having Sprint at all.

Get this, 343: As much as I hate basically every single idea your company has ever had, I am personally not buying H5 based on Sprint alone. You didn’t listen. You continue to make games that feel nothing like Halo, so I am done.

Actually they did listen.

They made the game have equal starts, no armor abilities, nerfed sprint, got rid of infinity slayer, brought back descope, introduced a good ranking system, put out a beta to make sure they got the core gameplay right, got rid of grenade indicators, etc. They made Halo’s multiplayer very dedicated to being competitive and good for esports which is something Halo used to be well-known for.

So basically you are crying about a feature that everyone knew was going to be in the game, with the majority of players even wanting it in Halo (the statistics don’t lie). Sprint doesn’t work 100% perfect for Arena Gameplay? Sure, I can see your perspective though it’s not actually a fact that makes the game worse.

You are avoiding the bigger picture. Sprint is going to work for the whole package (Campaign and BTB) so you’re pretty much just being a baby.

finally someone using logic and pros and cons when talking about sprint

Lol, wow… people wanted equal starts after Reach, and instead they did what they wanted and added even more variables. Then when nobody played their game, they decided to make equal starts… only now everybody has dumb abilities at all times. This isn’t much better.
The majority actually doesn’t want Sprint. It’s still there because they are stubborn AF.
Brought back descope after people complained about it not being there at an early access. 343 even said it was a glitch and it WAS going to be in H4. Right.
People didn’t want grenade indicators in MCC. They’re still there.
Good ranking system? They KNOW people love the 1-50, yet as of right now, they’re going with something different that nobody wants.
Smart Scope was an obvious COD attempt, despite EVERYBODY hating how H4 resembled COD.
