halo 5's rank system

in halo reach, you ranked up buy getting credits. and you unlocked stuff for ranking up.
halo 4, you ranked up via xp. you unlock stuff literally every rank except 25.
halo 5, you get a lousy bronze to (if your very lucky) silver pack. that means maybe one perma-REQ. the -Yoink-?

instead in halo 5, you have a 1 in a billion chance of getting the perma-REQ you want. now this is a problem.
so, you open a gold pack hoping for lets say Deadeye helmet, but instead you get the Reaper helmet.
meanwhile, another guy opens a gold pack and gets Deadeye when he wanted Reaper.

So you’re both buying you’re -Yoink-ing faces off trying to get that one REQ.

do you get my point? ranks get you zip in h5. and 343i should go back to the rank up to get stuff way.
maybe still have warzone and weapon and vehicle REQs, but leave our precious armor out of this.

and, please bring back for instance, forearms, legs, shoulders, etc…

Haven’t played Halo 5, but the more I read about it, the less I want to. Everything seems so radically different from every other Halo. At least 4 was really similar to Reach… I hear the “Halo 4 is just Call of Duty with a Halo name” argument all the time but Halo 5 seems even more so. Not getting to have the ability to get the armor I want from the start by progressing, instead it’s randomly determined? Thanks but no thanks… REQ packs and the whole system doesn’t seem very appealing.

I would recommend a Halo: Reach style system in which there would be 10 base armors, and 12 base helmets. (all would be customizable, like soft cases and armor additions)
There would also be different:

  • Shoulder Armors (12)
  • Forearm Attachments (5)
  • Knee Armors (10)
  • Thigh Attachments (8)
  • Visors (8)
That’s really what I would love. Tell me what you think there should be more or less of AssumedSpartan.

In h5 you get rank specific req packs for hitting a certain rank. They contain a variety of small things, but the system works better this way. The REQ packs give you incentive to spend those req points and there is a crap ton of visual customization to be unlocked. Because there is so much customization a unlock system like reach or h4 simply doesn’t work. The H5 level cap is 152 and there are many more customization options so if H5’s system was the same as Reache’s and you want an item that’s locked behind lvl 200 you’ll never get it anyway unless you invest your life into the game.

You are really confused here. You may want to reword your title here. Are you mad about CSR which is actual rank, XP level which is based on XP points, or how pretty much all cosmetics are shoved into a RNG system and can’t be earned specifically? While it can be frustrating wanting one particular armor and it’s locked in RNG system i simply tell players stop concentrating on ONE thing. Simply play the game earn your points and keep opening packs. Open silver’s till they refund two 1500 point req cards instead of unlocks and do the same with golds till they refund two 3000 point req cards. Then you have pretty much everything. It is the fastest way to get everything and that leads to getting what you want faster.

Here’s the thing though, many of the load outs can only be unlocked through the req pack system. New players will likely not have access to sentinel guns, smgs and dmrs for a while. These are things that have a significant impact on gameplay.

Don’t beat on it until you try it. This is the forums, after all. Everything you read will most likely be negative or hopefully constructive criticism in order to make the game better.

The Halo 5 system is like the lottery and I hate that. I think we should be able to buy a certain amount of armor with credits (like Reach), but require a certain achievement to unlock the rest (like 3).

All they have to is chop the arm, leg, and shoulder armor and create new armor categories. We really need this.

The game isn’t terrible, it’s a huge difference from what I grew up on, but its still fun. The req pack system may not be in everyone’s favor, but it’s not that bad of a system.

I agree it’s annoying to not get the armor or helmet you’d want right away, but you’ll get it eventually. I do miss having certain helmets and armor that were only unlockable via achievements.

Not sure why you’re complaining about SR ranks when you get RP points after every game that you play which in turn is spent on REQ packs.

Now if you’re complaining about the RNG, then I agree with you. While it keeps people playing, it’s not a great system. To tie in your original complaint to an idea, maybe in H6 they could make it so certain ranks would have certain armors linked to that rank up. Similar to the haunted helmet in Reach when you made Inheritor.

This guy is so right about how stupid the REQ system is (especially if you’re on PC where there’s no ranked matchmaking or warzone). 343 NEEDS to fix this.

Only in warzone and warzone assault. I recommend playing heroic warzone firefight till you build a decent req inventory

PC is for forging. It’s not the actual game.

Doesn’t matter. The armor unlocking system is still bullcrap.

I think they should convince the armor system from 4 and reach

A lot more of everything in my apinion, and I’m not the biggest fan of the credits in reach.

I dislike the REQ system. And I would rather it go back to h4 system than reach to be honest.

H4 system was a joke thought really. You maxed it out in like 2 months. The req system can be great. They should have just had way more stuff unlocked by game play as well. Especially as bloated as the req system is there was no reason they couldn’t have more cosmetics unlocked via game play/achievements.

i think reaches system could work well, they could keep the req packs strictly for warzone and armour can be unlocked via req points after reaching certain ranks it would solve the problems i have with the system like random drops, armour clutter and lack of progression

H3 had the best system. If you wanted experience you had to band together with your teammates and sacrifice your k/d for the win in objective games just to get a max of 1 point. People rarely quit because then they had to play another game just to get back where they were. Not to mention the epic grind for a 50 which hasnt existed since they added arena in H Reach which made it so only no lifers could make progress in ranked. Also armor was linked to achievements so you could be a 50 with no armor or a 10 with all the armors. It just depended on what you wanted to achieve in the game. Most people didnt care about any armor other than recon.

Ive always prefered maps and playlists over pointless armor but imagine a game with as many armors as H5 that all need to be unlocked H3 style. That would be a fun and rewarding challenge to collect them all
