#9 on the most played Xbox Live marketplace, peaks at less than 29k players. It’s currently doing worse than what Halo 4 did one month after launch. Way more people are playing Destiny than Halo 5 even though Destiny’s been out for over a year. This game is a complete disappointment (art style, content, maps, features, bait and switch story, broken theater mode) in every way aside from actual gameplay.
Their ‘sustain’ plan where they take game modes and maps from the base game and remove them so add them later as ‘free content update dlcs’ turned out to be a terrible idea and has hurt the game massively making it stale and repetitive as -Yoink-, i mean who the hell wants to play on Stormbreak three times in a row with only warthog and ghost vehicle cards, or play team slayer on The Rig. No thanks 343i I’m not in the mood for a complete and utter miserable experience.
343i has no idea how to manage their games when it comes to playlists, features, UI etc etc. Come on 343i wake up from your esports crap and listen to what the community wants for once, look at why people are still playing halo reach for example (great UI, feature list, file browser, forge world, robust matchmaking, great selection of playlists from social to competitive).
tl;dr
the reason halo 5’s population is dying is because the only things to play on it is three warzone maps with limited req cards, breakout on the same tron like maps, btb on awful and ugly forge maps, and team slayer on The- -Yoinking!- -Rig . Fix Theater mode, give us Forge mode, new proper DEV made maps for all game modes, more permanent playlists in match-making (infection, grifball, CTF, Team Doubles etc), double exp weekends for all modes, more community events etc. And for god’s sake bring back split-screen for the next Halo game.

I can still find games on COD Ghosts, doesn’t change the fact that game is pretty much dead compared to the other cods, and is universally hated by nearly everyone.
,I disagree that the DLC is the main issue . Although I do concede that it is part of the problem.
In my opinion, I am somewhere between a hardcore player and a casual player. I love the game. It needs tweaks but love the game. Bu, I also have played enough games to know what appeals to larger audience which is the casual crowd. I can tell you. Its not this “This game must be competitive for me to play” mentality. That mindset is for hard core players. They have made H5 cater to hardcore players. The game has the quickest TTK of any of the prior games. they changed the radar and aim to make it very difficult. Making a game difficult will only drive people away. It will not make people want to play. the game DArk Souls is a good example of this. Its a great game but incredibly difficult and it caters to a niche playerbase. It will never sell 7 to 10 million copies. But the Developer doesn’t care. They have decided they are content with their niche and thats ok. Is that ok for Halo? I would argue, no its not ok.
Again all of the above is just my opinion. I could be dead wrong. But there are good reasons why COD continue to be popular. One of them is because its easy to to learn. there is just a smaller skill gap there compared to Halo or Gears of War for that matter.

Lower population =
Less playlists
Worse skill match ups
Worse connection
Longer search times
I mean I am not saying its dead and I can get games pretty fast too. But the population dropped pretty hard already and if it gets too low we will all be affected by it.

29k isn’t low, Battlefield 4 stayed like this forever. Also, people are playing Fallout, once they’re done with that they’ll be back. 95% of the Destiny players on my list are on Fallout, Halo,Star Wars, or COD. This is also the only game with free DLC which will reel back others. Christmas sales will also bring forth newcomers and we know Forge will be there which will keep many Minecraft kids in the game

Exactly. This is the reason MCC became a lost cause. After a bad launch and the resulting lowish population, it became impossible to split playlists to cater to the unique tastes of the community and implement an effective ranking and match making system, which then resulted in further decline.
At around 7 places lower than Halo 5 on the most played list, MCC is seeing very slow and poor match making. Though it is likely caused by bugs, it’s exacerbated by low population.

I am, I haven’t even played the game properly since BTB first launched. Halo 5 just doesn’t appeal to me at all anymore, it’s boring, dull and repetitive. The only time it’s ever enjoyable is with friends.
No one is using mics. Any one who is, is doing it in party chat.
Oddly enough, this inst the case on Star Wars or Call of Duty.
This is taking the fun/social element out of the game.
343 have grossly overestimated the importance of MLG types. Make the multiplayer fun. Battlefront has nowhere near the game mechanics, but you know what? It’s fun.
Why is it fun? Well you have Star Wars music blasting and a ton of nostalgia.
You know what the greatest theme tune in video game history is? Yep, Halo. And there’s only elements of it in Halo 5 and they are dialled right down.
343 got a lot of the gameplay stuff great, but forgot the old saying “leave with the girl who took you to the dance”. The girl who took us to the proverbial dance was fun, loud music , mic chatter and a bad -Yoink- Spartan.

Free DLC which should have been in the game already -.-. Besides, I wouldn’t hold my breath on 343 being the only company to use “free DLC”

That’s one of the lamest excuses I’ve seen trying to validate 343’s design of this game. Expecting too much? There’s so much missing and broken in this game that players cast their vote by moving on to other games. Period.
343 even abandoned their own forum community after the first week once players started pointing out the issues with Halo 5.

R6: Siege is getting free maps and other DLC, and Fallout 4 is getting free “major” updates along side its season pass DLC.
