Currently, Halo 5’s population is low. It is below CoD BO III, Fallout, Battlefront, and even Minecraft on Xbox One. Now I am not here to bash the game and say it is terrible because it’s not popular, but give my opinions on what can be done or added to make the game more fun and more popular.
Add game modes like Infection, Doubles,Shotty Snipes, Snipers, Action Sack, Community Creations (playlist of forged games), and Rumble Rockets. Obviously there are MANY more to list, but these are the ones I could think of. Basically, anything that could possibly be put into a playlist, put it into a playlist. The main problem with Halo 5 is a lack of content. Adding more playlists can only help, and more playlists will help bring in different kinds of gamers to boost the population.
Add more maps, both forged and developed by 343. More maps that are well-made will make gameplay more varied and fun, as well as get gamers to come back to Halo 5 as new maps drop.
3.Add a casual section so players can play casual variants of the arena playlists. This way, gamers that are not very good or don’t care about winning can play in a casual environment. In this section will also be game modes I listed above.
Get content out as close to Christmas as possible and soon. This content needs to be here when the population has risen after Christmas so that population can stay high. As someone noted in the comments, a common saying by 343 is “sometime.” 343 needs to push to get content out before the game grows stale for many, and that could be soon.
Not really for population:
5. Campaign DLC(free of course). I know Josh Holmes or someone with a similar position said this wouldn’t be done, but I think it would make many happy. The campaign started to pick up in the end, but was cut short and I think a DLC in a year could make some players happier. Granted, this probably wouldn’t boost population, but it would certainly make people more satisfied with the campaign.

A social type playlist is coming sometime. Not sure when. Agree that population is divided between some big title games right now. We will see a boost in population after the holidays for sure.
cod, halo, and fallout all came out recently and minecraft is a causal game, your not gonna steal away the gamers from cod and fallout by adding 5 extra gamemodes. the players decided what they want to play by the gameplay and no small change will help, at best it will only prevent some from leaving

“Sometime”
That’s 343’s problem. They’re taking their time when this should have been added at launch.
The biggest thing they need right now is communication, not a 8-worded sentence once a week in a community update that slightly teases us on what’s coming. We need to know what’s coming and when. As much as I love this game they need to get it here quick for these exact population issues. Lack of game types is what I think is driving most people away!
One , if not the biggest mistake than has been made with Halo 5 is the launch date. They made the same mistake with Halo 4. Both were launched within 2 week of COD:BO II then III. Both should have been launched in Late September. Both H3 and Reach were launched in September (if i remember correctly). Sadly, That is one issue that can’t be fixed. With that said, there are three things they have changed for this game that make this game feel more like COD and BF instead of Halo. These changes have increased the skill gap( a bad thing if you want a large playerbase). For it to appeal to a large audience. casual players must be able to jump in and start having fun. This game will not give them that. Now the three things-
The time to kill. This has been sped up dramatically compared to prior games. In Halo you did have BR duels. Now it over in about 2 and half seconds vs nearly 5. I might be off in the exact time but its crazy fast compared to prior games. This could use fine tuning.
The radar and motion detector are crap compared to prior games. This was a staple in prior games, now it feels and acts exactly like COD and BF. This is a bad thing.
The scoring needs to be changed in Warzone. I have played way too many games where my team loses by more than 400 points. Thats not fun. Thats not competitive. This will make players not want to play.
If they fix these things, It will be a better game. But it might already me too late. Then again I’m sure there are lots of potential players that will get it at Christmas. Sadly I won’t be expecting any changes in these areas.

Those are all mega titles and with the exception of Minecraft, cross platform. Cross platform games have a much larger magnetism to them simply because everyone can play them regardless of console preference.
Minecraft is kind of a big deal. Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean many, many others don’t.

True. I was very confused by the lack of social when I first popped the game in. I am not sure what the thought process was behind that. I am just happy we will have one though.
While I see that adding game types and maps may bring more people, those people will mostly stick to those gametypes. Therefore if someone is playing nothing but infection and I’m playing nothing but Team Slayer then I get no benefit from the population jump.
I think the purpose of so little game types at launch in the first place was to keep the launch rooms with as many people as possible and not so quickly segregate the population. In theory this should have made your rank you achieved more accurate and assisted in much better matches (which is debateable if that actually happened).
So yes, while your suggestion may bump the population numbers overall, they will now be divided among many more different rooms therefore negating any positive effect it might have.

Yeah Warzone can be very boring if one team is completely dominating the other.

Yeah, there is no downside to communication! I mean, why make the community think they can’t bring out content. Makes no sense to me.

Good point, but I hope you realize this means Halo 5’s population is below 40k ( I think). These games will probably always have a higher population, (COD is popular around the world, Fallout is amazing, Battlefront is Star Wars, and Minecraft has such a wide audience), but right now it seems Halo 5 is just barely even competing.
Maybe add a small classic mode for old veteran players.
Examples:
1 - Remove the 8 abilities, Sprint, thruster, ground pound, clamber, smart scope, slide, charge, hover.
2 - Add back the popular maps. The pit, guardian, blood gulch, etc.
3 - Add previous halo weapons back. Gravity hammer, old rocket launcher, plasma rifle, etc
4 - Maybe bring back pick ups/ power ups/ equipment pick ups. Power drain, bubble shield, grave lift, etc.
Even though MCC has this, it needs a proper return instead of playing literally the exact same game again. it would be nice to see this in the new game engine at the side somewhere. Also halo 2 anniversary’s aim assist feels just like halo 4’s, not to mention the matchmaking still has problems and the forge is the same as halo 4’s but slightly improved.
If not any of this, then we can all agree that the classic maps need a return. Because they are one of the things that made halo… halo. Just like how classic maps, such as Dust II from counter strike made counter strike the game it is today.
However even if they do add them back without a classic mode the combat will be very very crushed since they are not ‘designed for sprint’ or the other abilities. and will need some stretches and extensions.

I may be wrong, but I’m pretty sure they did not change anything related to aiming for H2A. Pretty sure they just upgraded the visuals.

Maybe with forge this could work. The more playlists the better.
