Halo 5's Music

The number one gripe that I hate about the new music is “It doesn’t sound like the old music!!!”

This sentiment is patently absurd. While music is one of the most subjective art forms out there, and everyone is entitled to like what they like, none of the Halo albums have sounded the same. Griping that the new music doesnt sound like the “old” (read: Bungie) music is just wrong, because none of the OSTs sound like each other. CE was mysterious and almost spooky [A Walk in the Woods, Under Cover of Night], H2 was rock and roll [Mjolnir Edition, Breaking Benjamin], H3 was stereotypical “space opera music”[This is the Hour, Behold a Pale Horse], epic with long notes and high crescendos. ODST was haunting and filed with dread[Deference for Darkness, The Rookie], and Reach sounded almost tribal; appropriate for a “frontier” of space (I know reach was the biggest non-Earth population, but it wasn’t Earth, so we’re supposed to feel like it’s the untamed wild) [Overture, Winter Contingency].

Halo 4 took on its own feel, much like the previous ones, with a more technological sound (appropriate, since we’re dealing with the Forerunners, who are much more technologically advanced), mixed with some very emotional scores, as we get to see a much more human side of the Chief [Revival, Green and Blue, To Galaxy].

Halo 5 took the technological feel of the previous soundtrack and mixed it with some of the classic “Halo Theme”, due to our first contact with the “old” of Halo, Blue Team (also the name of what I think is the most beautiful song of any Halo game) [The Trials, Blue Team, Worldquake].

If you think I’m wrong, go back and listen to the full OSTs, and compare them. None of them sound the same.

I understand people not liking them because its not your style (because its music, and we could debate it all day and get nowhere since its so personal), but if you dislike it because its not “the same”, it’s just ridiculous.

P.S.: I personally enjoy all of the soundtracks, each on their own merits. If I had to put an order on it it’d be ODST, CE, Reach, 3, 4, 5, 2. But that’s just my opinion.

Halo 4 “Never forget” is the best, I remember myself watching the credits withe the epic music and thinking about cortana was dead.
Halo 5 credits r trash

While that was just a remix of “Never Forget” from Halo 3, which itself borrows heavily from “Unforgotten” in Halo 2, yes. That was a good song.

I don’t particularly remember the credits of any Halo game.

Ik I love all those versions but in the context halo 4 ends, it made me feel something special.

I think its the style that is important. Marty did most of the Halo’s to date. Each one sounded different for the tone of the game but it was still all so very Halo, Bungie, and Marty. 343 hasn’t nailed down that style, that’s why people complain. It’s not bad music, it just doesn’t sound quite the same. Like imagine if Star Wars 7 had come out and there was little to no John Williams, and they had new people making similar music. It would probably sound fine but people would freak because “Binary Sunset” or something wasn’t played somewhere in there and the new stuff wasn’t close enough to it.
I think the new soundtrack, paired with the new visuals, honestly makes Halo feel alot more like a reboot with throwbacks to the old school, rather than an actual continuation of the story.
