Halo 5's Multiplayer. Love it? Hate it? Why?

I’m a Halo fanboy, we’ll just get that out of the way. I grew up fueled on Halo 2’s and Halo 3’s MLG scene and have always been a passively competetive online player. I’ve never been to picky about how a game plays. I love Halo and it’s universe, so whatever kind of game the dev’s throw at me I’ll buy, and I’ll play it as best as I can. So with this being said, thruster packs, ground pounds, spartan charges and all that spartan ability goodness I’m all for. It’s dope and honestly, I think the game is so much fun online. It feels fast and feels smooth. (But as previously stated I’ve loved every Halo game and multiplayer with each release. With every new release I always praised it as the best multiplayer as it was pry the one I spent the most recent time getting good at.)

SO Halo 5’s multiplayer.

Communtiy, what do you think? Hate it? Love it? Give us “classic” Halo?

For the most part I really enjoy Halo 5’s multiplayer. However I feel that the majority of the social game modes are for the most part ruined by the MMR system. I can’t find matches when playing with my friends and when I find matches alone it always feels like a losing battle. It never really feels “social”. If you are looking for a casual game to play I absolutely would not recommend it unless you are willing to only play Firefight and the very lack luster campaign. Ranked is meant to be more balanced and competitive so I understand it’s implications there. I honestly believe Trueskill 2 could have worked amazing with Halo 5 if it was implemented when the population was much larger. A strict matchmaking system like that does not work when the playerbase is small.

To be fair, I don’t mind Halo 5’s Multiplayer, but it’s definitely not my favourite Multiplayer, like it flows good, but the whole Multiplayer is forced competitive, If you’re a casual player or new or a returning player like me you’re going to have a hard time

But the reason why I have a dislike with Multiplayer is the abilities, Thrusters, Spartan Charge & Ground Pound, Sprint I’m 50/50 with but the abilities is what makes me dislike the Multiplayer

So much this, I barely find games even on solo expanded these days in social/warzone and when I do the matches have a tendency to be annoying. That is thanks to the MMR system trying to balance the matches, in warzone for example I can personally do well in just about any match but getting team mates who all have way below 1 k/d ratio and can’t really even hold a single base.

For me ranked is way more social than the actual social is…

But on topic: basically started with Reach in 2010 (very little Halo 3 beforehand) and Halo 5 is definitely my favourite. The overall gameplay is simply just so satisfying and fun. I’ve been playing Halo 5 actively since it came out and very probably will play until Infinite (or until MMR stops me from finding games completely.)

Only real gripes with this game are some balance issues in Warzone and the infernal and dreaded heavy aim. That heavy aim issue is just so random, illogical and frustrating. But overall gr8 m8 I r8 8/8.

I am a bit torn on h5 multiplayer. sometimes I would enjoy it, other times I wouldn’t. out of all the halos, i find h5 to be the most mentally exhausting simply because of how focused i have to be all the time. the abilities making everyone lightning fast around the map and the small radar gives the feeling that I am never safe anywhere on the map. This combined with the fact that I am upper diamond(idk if thats a good rank, i bought the game a month ago and the new rank is a bit foreign from the 1-50 I was used to) and play in semi-difficult/competitive games all the time makes it hard for me to play more than 2 hours at a time as it is too mentally exhausting.

I used to love it to no end before the weapon updates and before all the playlists started getting scrapped. It was easily my favorite multiplayer of any Halo. Now, it’s easily the worst or at least close to it for me because the playlist selection is horrid and the loadout weapons, which are at the core of what Halo is, are useless.

Before, I couldn’t stay away and would play Halo 5 over whatever other game I was playing that week. Now, I’m happy to say I’ve put it away indefinitely and my mind is at ease knowing I did so.

Wow, interesting to hear.

Sooooo… you gonna play Halo Infinite?

Through and through I ultimately love it. It’s super smooth and fluid compared to the other games (though I’ve stated and will continue to do so that I prefer the older titles). Only complaint I have is sometimes the dedicated servers aren’t dedicated enough. With the abundance of connection issues it leaves a lot to be desired. But in the end here I am three years later still playing Halo 5.

Based on the engine demo and what has been said about it, yeah definitely as soon as I can get my hands on it. Even without all that, it’s still a new Halo so I’ll play it as some point regardless. Much like what you said, it’s a new Halo release so there’s a lot to be excited for

I say I have a love hate relationship with it. I enjoy some aspects of it. I enjoy using some of the req weapons, especially the answer, voids tear and H2 beam rifle Delta. Super fiesta and BTB fiesta can be some good times. As far as ranked arena it’s kinda stale for me. It’s nothing but a pistolfest most of the time. Spartan charge is absolutely yoink! I loathe it. Ground pound is fine with me because it has to be charged and you have to some what aim it. Spartan charge is nothing but a crutch for sprinting around the map like mad man.

I would like to see multiplayer go back to a more traditional set up. I could careless if Sprint stays or goes but maybe go ahead and get rid of the majority of these “abilities” and have equipment as map pick ups. There would be nothing wrong with having a thruster pack or jet pack you pick up and give it a limited use like a certain amount of fuel/battery power. Same way the bubble shields would only last a certain amount of time.

I love the arena and warzone because it gives me ways to enjoy the maps and the fun game modes. The ffa category and ranked playlists tho are super sweaty and I can never get a win because I’m ranked against higher players every time. So it’s more enjoyable in my case even though I do hate one playlist.

Its a decent game i’ll give it that but it leans to heavily on the grind aspect and less on the enjoyment aspect.

It’s a decent space shooter if you take it at face value, but it’s pretty bad if you start breaking it down and really looking into it.

The reason I hate Halo 5 above any other Halo game is because it barely plays like Halo. Outside of Halo:CE with the pistol dominating the sandbox, H5 came out around the time of the end of the advance mobility phase. 343 wanted to capitalize on this and copy titian fall and advance warfare. H4 suffered the same thing to where 343 copied CoD in order to pull their fanbase into Halo. I dislike ADS along the bullet magnetism, the spartan abilities are extremely unnecessary and pulls further away from the Halo experience. Warzone Firefight isn’t truly firefight its nothing more than bullet soaked enemies with micro-transaction schemes. The game is almost 100 GB and the pistol is still too strong. No splitscreen so I cannot local play, which is one of the reasons Halo was so popular, overall H5 as awhole is a failed Halo game. From the gameplay, features, and server quality on release. If ppl enjoy H5 thats fine but plenty of fans have been asking for a classic based Halo since 2012.

It took me a while to get used to, but once I did, it turned out to be really fun. I’ve always been a casual player, and have also focused on the campaigns in the Halo universe, but I do enjoy the flow of H5 MP.

I like it for the most part. I can’t stand Spartan abilities. Call me old but i most prefer the way Halo 2 did it. Adding extra gimmicks llike Spartaan thrusting gets redundent.

I love to hate it lol. For me, what’s the real source of enjoyment for me out of H5’s multiplayer is teamwork. Sure I get some fun out of playing solo (I mainly play solo since I don’t know many that play honestly) but I get frustrated a lot more. Whether is the randoms or just my own performance. But when I’m playing with at least 1 or 2 others (like someone from my friend’s list and they invite someone from theirs) and we’re working as a team is when I notice I’m not really getting frustrated or mad or anything like that. I think it helps me mentally because I’m no longer worried about just myself (because you can’t trust randoms, as I’ve gotten killed plenty of times for doing just that) so I can also focus on what’s being said along with what my teammates are doing and things like that. I got used to the Spartan Abilities (the Spartan Charge is the most annoying for me, but don’t really have issues with the other stuff. Thrusting kinda, but I can overlook that when comparing it to the Spartan Charge) so I don’t really have much of a problem with them outside of how quick it made the gameplay (not a fan of a “twitchy” Halo game. That’s when I’ll play something like CoD if I want that kind of experience) and how quick you can get from one end of the map to the other (it can make some maps that seem big to be “not so big”).

But ya, I feel like I enjoy H5’s multiplayer about 60% of the time, because the majority of my time spent playing this game is by myself. But because I love Halo and have been playing since CE way back when, I’m still going to play it just like MCC.

When I played Halo 5 I was 50 / 50. It was a love / hate thing. I tried to love it, in the short time I played Halo 5 I put a ton of time into it, but I had to walk away. Reqs and online connection were my biggest issues with it. I’ve been playing Halo since CE, I used to buy Halo without hesitation, but Halo 5 has changed that, I won’t be buying Halo Infinite at this time. 343i can change my mind though.

Honestly I have a lot of fun playing H5 multiplayer. I don’t have a problem with the Spartan abilities, and I come from classic Halo as well (2 and 3).

H5 is my first multiplayer experience. I played through all the other campaigns but never considered multiplayer for 2 reasons
1 - wifi cost made it unfeasible
2 - to scared to even try for fear of constantly being wrecked.

I love H5 but I often struggle with the balance of the match making. Sure my ave win is 50% which seems about right but I am referring to stomp fests. Very few games are close. I don’t even know if there is a solution for that.
