Halo 5's Flood: New Option: "The Last of Us"

I’ve been thinking about this for a while now, and would love to see it in Halo 5’s Flood gametype as an option.

What really makes me want this now is three things:

  1. The JIP glitch in Flood that causes enemy Survivors
  2. The Last of Us game (for PlayStation 3), which has both enemy scavengers and zombies
  3. DayZ (for PC), where there’s other scavengers and zombies

So basically, the idea is that Flood now has an Alpha and Bravo Survivor team options. In other words, (let’s assume 12 players) 5 players would be on Survivor Team Alpha, 5 players would be on Survivor Team Bravo, and 2 players would be Flood. The players could be on random Survivors teams each round (an option like “Enable Forced Teams, or Enable Random”).

Each Survivor team member can kill the opposing Survivor team members, but working together can be an option as well (but remember, getting stabbed in the back is a possibility). When a Survivor dies by another Survivor, they become a Flood. This is so the Survivors can’t abuse the system, like if they were working together, and one Survivor is about to die, another Survivor can kill them so they respawn instead of becoming a Flood.

To make it where the Survivor Teams wouldn’t always work together, there could be something like “Kill an enemy Survivor and earn a Personal Ordnance”, but this of course can just be a Custom option to enable. Although that enemy’s AR ammo is looking mighty fine right about now…

Every time I play Hivemind now in Halo 4, I imagine if this was in. Imagine running for a SAW, and an enemy Scavenger shows up. Oh, the conflict. And then the Flood right in the middle of the mess? Man, gets me happy just thinking about it.

So what do you guys think? Remember, this wouldn’t be the new forced Flood. This would be an option in Customs. As in, when you go into Customs, there would be a “Enable Survivor Teams” option, and a “Survivors per Team” option.

So 3 teamed flood? Would be cool if elites come back (flood vs elites vs spartans)

Sounds like a pretty awesome idea! It would have to be named something else most likely.

And if the surviver teams were working together, wouldn’t there be aim assist issues, so you’re aiming at a flood, and then a survivor steps in your way, so you screw em with your shotgun shells? Lol. Just a thought. Part of getting “stabbed in the back” I suppose.

Indeed. Could be a “sacrifice great aim for numbers” kind of deal.

To me it doesn’t sound that different from standard infection. It really sounds like a free for all with zombies which it already is just everyone is allowed to kill each other for ordnance. It would literally be free for all. I feel like there really would be no incentive to work as a team with random strangers online. To force it to work I would have two teams no friendly fire and I would make it so that whatever team isn’t eliminated wins. But again it just doesn’t sound as fun to me that way because in normal flood you can either think of yourself as your own team or as everyone on one team. This game mode basically forces specific teams which I think will only make the game shorter. I imagine that both teams would still be running around with each other. The only difference is that there will be no last man standing kind of thing. The round will be over as soon as one team is eliminated. In essence this would force the idea of “team” while there is an interesting dynamic of survivors working together but individually you are trying to win yourself. If your game mode in your was made I imagine that in some scenarios the first 20 seconds there will only be at most 2 survivors and plenty of zombies since every one killed each other.
Now if I think of it again it is basically a zombie mode with no last man standing in it… the last man standing wins.

I already imagine it in the playlist, lol. But I think it should at least be in Customs.

It would still be FFA, it’s just that you would have 4 people that can’t kill you, 5 people that may try to kill you, and 2 people who’s only goal is to kill everyone. (This is what I mean with the two Survivor teams; I think you just got a bit confused)

There would still be LMS (maybe you could set it up where there could be a LMS for each team, but that wouldn’t have to be).

The round wouldn’t end when only one team dies. The round ends when either all Survivors die, or the time limit runs out (or certain amount of score reached).

On some maps like Abandon or Haven, there could just be 2 Survivors within 20 seconds. When I imagine this new addition, I imagine it on maps with some space, like Complex, Exile, Perdition, Ragnarok (yes, I know those are some big maps, but you could always just add 1 or 2 more Alpha Flood if necessary).

Whats the point of teams if it still ends when all survivors die? Having the survivors kill each other would only add unneeded chaos and would speed the game up. There is no incentive for the teams, you cant have two teams and set them up with no team goal. Having teams in this game mode is pointless. Also what incentives would other players have to kill you or you kill them? If you give someone a saw they wont have too much time to use it since all the players both “teams” killed will turn pout to be a large horde of zombies breathing down the back of that survivor. Sure He may get a few more kills and gain some kills. The way I look at it this will be the shortest game mode in multiplayer.
