Halo 5's Enemies and Factions (Book spoilers)

After reading the first 2 books of the Kilo 5 trilogy and the entirety of the Forerunner Trilogy, It left me wondering which factions will end up being brought to light in Halo 5, and which enemies/allies might return. But how will 343 decide who makes the cut?

It seems as though the Insurrection could play some part in the story, but at the same time, I kind of doubt it. The Insurrection hasn’t been mentioned in the games yet, and to do so now would add even more complications to a story that wasn’t explained very well (Halo 4). And if the flood returns, we might have too many factions to deal with.

UNSC
Insurrection (Maybe)
Storm Covenant
Arbiter’s Forces (maybe)
Didact and the Prometheans
The “good” Forerunners who left our galaxy. (a small possibility based on the events of Silentium)
And the Flood/Precursors

But hey, who knows. If 343 can pull off all the explaining needed to reintroduce the flood, then maybe they could pull adding the Insurrection. But then again they still haven’t even properly explained the Storm and The Arbiter in game. I read the books, so I personally know all about them, but everyone should be able to know from the games.

So the overall question is: Which factions will be the main focus of the next Halo?

Yeah, this is kinda where I think 343i dropped the ball with Halo 4. There is so much going on, but very little set up for the next game. The comic Halo: Escalation is due out soon, but once again nobody should have to read it.

I think that it would be nice to bring in the Arbiter’s forces. Because then fans that haven’t read the books could be brought up to speed about what’s been going on with Covenant since no light was shown in that area in Halo 4. I hadn’t finished Glass Lands when I got Halo 4 and was confused about what was going on with the Covenant. It would just be nice to have that part of the Halo universe explained because I’m huge on the campaign and story in Halo.

I think a lot of the stuff introduced in the books is pretty cool, but at this point, 343 may have to dismiss a lot of potential plot points from them in order to save themselves from squeezing it all into the game.

I’d like to see the Arbiter’s forces play a role, but people are already confused about the covenant because of H4. At this point, it might be best if they simply mention the Arbiter and his disassociation with the Storm, and move on from that part of the story.

As for the insurrection, I’d say that there isn’t as high a demand there for them to come into the games, so I guess we can cross them off the list.

So now we have:

UNSC
Storm
Prometheans
Flood (Their return is very likely at some point)
Medicant Bias ( If he is an encountered in the next game, he might have a forerunner “faction” of his own. He betrayed the Forerunners in the past, so who knows what side he may be on.)
The “good forerunners” ( Not a huge possibility, but still a possibility. They would technically be a part of the Librarian’s faction)
Master Chief (IF Chief does go rogue, he wouldn’t really have a faction, but he’d be on his own seperate “side” of the conflict.

That’s still a lot of potential factions.

Everybody here is listing already existing factions, but what about whole new factions? Or at least, new species? All we’ve really seen since Halo 3 is different variations of Covenant (Skirmishers, Storm Grunts, etc.). I would really like to see some new species of aliens in Halo’s near future.

Completely agree.

I’d love to see a new species.

A Brute faction could be possible as well. I’d like to see new variations of Brutes.

Maybe a look at a new Queen in the drone empire. Possibly Skirmishers make a comeback?

^
I would love to have a new non-forerunner species, but there would have to be a good explanation for them suddenly popping up in he story. I wouldn’t want them to suffer the same fate of the Skirmishers, who just kind of showed up in Reach and didn’t really have a good explanation.

Halo 5 is badly in need of more factions. I felt deprived at the end of Halo 4.

Covenant imitations, abundant robots, and sidelined marines do not make a very good case.

The Flood coming back, probably a revised version, is enough for me

I would really enjoy seeing the UNSC and Insurrectionist fight each other on Earth. If 343 could pull that off it would also be interesting to see Insurrectionist looking weapons.

Highly doubt we will see Chief battling against humans.

I disagree.

(ONI’s actions towards Halsey may blow a fuse that’s been building pressure since Cortana’s death)

At this point it seems pretty obvious that Chief, at some point, will be flying solo. I’m not quite sure, however, if it will be because he outright leaves the UNSC. Even if ONI manages to push a few of Chief’s buttons, Chief knows that the UNSC isn’t completely controlled by ONI. He is also very aware that the Captain of the Infinty is definitely on his side. So to me, it doesn’t make sense that Chief would leave the UNSC for something ONI is doing.

Chief wouldn’t turn on everything he’s ever fought for like that, just because ONI attempted to assassinate Halsey. He may see her as a ‘mother-figure’ just like the other Spartans do, but he wouldn’t betray the people he’s fought for/ alongside just because of her. He’s too level-headed.

We’ve already seen the Chief slaughtering humans, they’re called Insurrectionists. And by the looks of it, ONI seems to only care about ONI - not humanity. Plotting to wipe out a species that could glass your homeworld with the push of a button in a way that relies merely on balance and luck doesn’t seem like a good idea.

What happens if the Arbiter finds out about ONI’s intentions?

It would just take one miscalculation on ONI’s part to unite the entire Sangheili against mankind. And it’s almost funny that ONI plots to wipe out the species that was the ultimate factor in our survival of the Human Covenant War. The Sangheili had respected us as a species, why not just make an alliance with them and wipe out Galactic threats together.

During a war between several different factions, if often takes just a single alliance to light a spark that unites them all.

Same here, if or when they bring back them flood they should include some flood forms like the flood juggernaut that was going to be in Halo 2.
