So I got an Xbox One S last month because of the MCC, it’s up and running, but additionaly i bought the Halo 5 Limited Edition for 30 bucks at Amazon, I knew that the campaign wasn’t as great as the past Halos, because of playing as Locke, an annoying story, Spartan abilities, and a non newcomer friendly content, I personally wanted the multiplayer since people told me it was great. I am a complete newcomer to both Xbox and Halo, and I liked the campaign, it’s my second favorite , first is the second one, all the posts that I have encountered are from people who grew up playing the old Halo, people were upset thanks to playing as the Chief only 3 missions, sprinting, or the lies from the ads. I completely argue with them, Halo is not like before, 343i is targeting new players, so they have a new character, a new story, different like before, new movement, etc. There were lies, that’s true, I don’t care since I didn’t saw them. The only problem is that you have to read the books, view The Fall of Reach, Halo: Nighfall, and play Spartan Ops. In conclusion, to the old Halo community, 343i tried to make the MCC, but it was a complete failure, so the community is mad at them, because of ruining the MCC, and changing Halo with the fifht; with newcomers, they didn’t made the story completely understandable to them, so, it din’t was a perfect game. I liked it because of me being a newcomer, playing Spartan Ops in the MCC, and viewing both Nighfall and Reach with the MCC and H5:LE, I read The Flood. That is my personal thought. I would like to know if you agree or disagree.

Targeting new players while alienating the existing fanbase
343 published an Infographic, a diagram of the bits of Lore that Halo 5 is drawing on, link below. Fall of Reach (published alongside Halo 5), Halo:Escalation and Halo: Last Light are probably the most important ones to know about as regards Blue Team in Halo 5.

If you or anyone else have never seen it, you can find summaries of the stories at Halopedia. Link here to Escalation’s episodes, then just click Books and Media for others, or else read about Blue Team in the Universe section:
But note where many go wrong. Halo 5 is a different kind of story. It’s not a straightforward Halo story, but a Mystery to solve. If someone is a Newcomer, they only need to know some very basic stuff about Chief and Blue Team to get through the game, and some of it can help solve the Mystery. They can always find out about the wider Lore later. For instance, some stuff about Blue Team is described on the Elevator in “Evacuation”, such as their being together for the longest, so bonded as a “family”. Other information is dotted around in the game, so you need to remember them and put them together, which applies to all sorts of other things too. Most clues are in-game, but some clues are Lore references, such as the “Take A Hike” Achievement, as it repeats Fred’s experience of of exploring caverns on a Forerunner world in Halo: Last Light. This will then link to the second Monitor in the Monitor’s Bounty DLC picture (it seems no-one has been “intrepid” enough to work out the other Monitor’s identity yet, LOL!).
Incidentally, if you have the Limited Edition, you’ll have a copy of Locke’s Secret Orders, including information about Vale. After playing the game, can you guess where her secret “Operation: Ocean Raptor” took place now? What does that mean about Vale and why she’s in the story?

Meanwhile, the character’s words have to be written a certain way in this type of Mystery story, which is why they don’t speak much, and what they say doesn’t always make sense until you find other clues. Above all, big things are sometimes said in little sentences, so players need to pay attention!
I disagree that 343 lied. I think some people simply didn’t understand the adverts correctly, taking them too literally rather than as “teaser trailers” with hints. They then missed the whole idea of it being a Mystery to solve, and so missed how Halo 5 is just “Halo 4: Part 2”. It only all makes sense when the right story arc is seen, then it’s more obvious what is really going on. I’ll put up a post about that soon.
Hope these help.
The bar was set so high, storytelling wise, because of Halo 4. It’s a decent video game campaign, but a terrible Halo campaign.
