Halo 5's budget?

Just wondering, does anyone know of Halo 5’s official budget, or if it has been confirmed yet? My inner-Kurt has a feeling that it’s the most expensive Halo game to date.

I think I read somewhere a while back that it was around 250 million.

I love how Halo 5 is a better game (IMO of course) than Destiny but with only half the budget

To be fair, I’m pretty sure the 500 million budget for Destiny is for the entire franchise. Not just the first Destiny game we got.

But I agree. Halo > Destiny. Destiny’s universe isn’t really even all that interesting to me. I’m surprised Bungie would rather work on Destiny over Halo.

daaaaaamn that’s a lot to make a video game lol I’m glad they did though, this is gonna be epic!

Somewhere north of…Enough to make it awesome.

Really? Do you have a source for that? That estimate seems incredibly high for a single console game with an install base of around 15 million owners.

Unfortunately, I don’t. I did read it on an official source somewhere, though.
It’s not really that high for Microsoft’s flagship title. Pretty normal. Call Of Duty titles have a budget of around 250 million dollars, as well. Remember, most of the budget goes towards marketing in games. For example, I believe CoD usually has an actual budget of around 50-60 million dollars for development, while about 150-200 million goes into marketing.

P.S. 15 million buyers x $60 = Around 900 million dollars.

  1. Oh you don’t mean forge?
  • Destiny’s 500 million was for the entire 10 year projected time frame - 250 million for Halo 5? Nea, no way. - It took 3 years of development to make Halo 5, and I’d assume it’s more like 50 million, just because of salaries over those 3 years for the 200+? I think I read somewhere people who worked on it. Then again, some of those people were working on MCC, and download content for that… so Idk.

I’d guess that including marketing it’s anywhere between 100 and 150 million.

Like I’ve stated, most of a game’s budget goes towards marketing. Well, flagship budgets. Like CoD, Halo, GTA, etc.
A CoD game typically takes about 50-60 million to actually develop, but Activision puts about 150-200 million towards marketing.

250 is still high, it’s probably 150 tops including the marketing.

There’s no chance Halo 5 will have a 100% attach rate. No game in history that I’m aware of has accomplished that. Even 50% would be enough to make Microsoft’s accountants giddy as school girls lol. I’m definitely aware that Call of Duty has an enormous budget for each title, but it’s a multi-platform game with a far higher potential for total sales.

None the less, you may be correct with the budget. I’d predict something in the $125-150 million including marketing but I may be low-balling it.

List of most expensive video games to develop.

It’s wikipedia, but as you can see, the development costs are much different than the overall budget (marketing, etc).

250 would be really high. But it might be feasible, as this holiday and this game release are basically Microsoft’s last chance to make any kind of large gain on PlayStation. It’ll be interesting to see the impact this has on the console spread.

lol Destiny has 140+ so they don’t know the full amount yet.

But I think this is a far point, some of those games on that list were not the best and didn’t get the best rating that had large budgets. Other games on their had smaller budgets and were highly rated. So OP, does the amount of money to make the game really matter?

I’ve been wondering this as well, probably like 70-80 million to develop and 100m+ with the marketing.
