I’ll be as straight forward as I can. First, I must say that Halo 5 looks like it will be an improvement over Halo 4. I understand that we cannot expect a Halo 2.5/3.5, and that the series has to make some changes in order to bring new players in. I understand that if I want to play classic Halo, I have MCC. I think the new additions, such as the thrusters/ground pound are interesting ways to freshen the game up.
What I do not understand is how 343 feel the need to change the feel of Halo. As I recall, numerous Bungie employees described Halo as “Ancient, Alien and Epic”. The visual and audio of Halo 1-3 felt solid, and unique. It had an ancient, quirky, mysterious feeling that gave it its identity. Each subsequent Halo game took the same art direction, just improved on its quality. The weapons still looked like their old selves, just with an updated look/sound. Same with the spartans themselves, and the maps as well. Even little details such as the reticles and shield sounds were consistent across games. The music retained the same feeling as well. In general, the games still looked and sounded like Halo games - even up until Halo Reach. All of this combined to form the incredible Halo “feel”. We all know that feeling as fans of the series, and it is what we have come to love.
In Halo 4 and Halo 2:A, the art direction completely changed alongside the change of developers. 343’s Halo is vastly different than what we have grown up with. Now, in Halo 5 it seems almost nothing of the look and sound remains form the previous games. Compare the BR from Halo 2/3 to the one in Halo 5. Its a completely different gun. The reticles are all different, the sound direction is completely different, the sound of spartans chattering and the look of spartans feel like a completely different game. I’m all for change, but is it really necessary to completely change what Halo fans have always known? It would be like changing how an X-Wing fighter looks in Star Wars, or changing the looks of Darth Vader’s helmet. Why does 343 insist on making meaningless changes that will do nothing but anger the fans? Is it really necessary to change the sound of grenades bouncing, shields recharging, spartan dying, the reticles, the weapon sounds, the announcer, etc.?
What I see when I watch Halo 5 gameplay is a complete lack of respect for Halo and its fanbase. Things in general look and sound cheesy. Everything from the sound of hitmarkers to the announcers obnoxious callouts and over the top acting just make me cringe. The Halo feel has gone from something that Bungie had nailed to now something that feels forced. 343’s Halo stinks of a generic space/sci-fi shooter now. I’m fine with gameplay changes if they serve to benefit the series. I’m not okay with pointless changes to things that do not need to be altered.
I wish 343 tried to keep the Halo feel while also pursuing gameplay advancements. If Halo 5 still looked like a Halo game I would be infinitely excited to play it.

Did you read my OP? I’m okay with the combat evolving. I’m talking about the look and feel of the game. 5 points for trying though. If you’re going to use that canned response, at least try to use it in the correct context.
Remember this is still a work in progress. Things we see now may change drastically before release.Such as the audio for Halo 5 Beta’s BR (IMO) would have to change before it’s final product because it sounds horrible and nothing like the three round burst gun it is.

I hope you are right. I’d like to think all of the weapon models and sounds are placeholders from Halo 4. However, the new shield sounds, weapon sounds, etc. are new and it seems the entire direction 343 is taking is the same as Halo 4’s.
check out the new gameplay 343 dropped in the bulletin. the br def has a 3rd burst sound, and alot of the weapons and gear are new models so why not change? its nothing ridiculous, seeing as they are evolutions rather than outright new directions. also star wars does have a new xwing lol (episode 7 trailerrrr)

You’re taking Halo CE’s title too literally. The only reason why the first Halo game was given the subtitle “Combat Evolved” was so that it would not be confused with a similarly named title at the time. I’d have to search for the source on this, but it should be general knowledge by now anyway.
I think 343 is moving in a direction that I personally find more compelling visually and musically. Every time I hear Halo 4’s music it captivates my imagination, it makes me feel that I’ve crossed a line and ventured outside a unknown Scifi place. It’s not like HCE, H2, H3, H3 ODST, or H Reach were bad in any way but with H4 I feel like the updated style was transcending to a greater path of design.

I agree. Every time I hear Legacy, it makes me think about Cortana so much. Not a lot of other Halo music brings such emotion.

The weapon design (look only) definitely isn’t my cup of tea. Some of the weapons look exactly like the Halo 4 models (and I think they should all look a bit different- example: AR, Sniper), other weapons look just okay (SMG) and some of them are truly ugly IMO (the BR with the new scope/whatever, the Prophet’s Bane). The only ones that look good to me are the DMR (which is actually really cool!) and the pistol. I definitely don’t see myself using the ugly chunk of metal that the BR has become in non-Arena modes (assuming Loadouts are in in some form outside of the Arena subsection). I will hope right with you for a redesign or at least some subtle improvements.
That said, everything OTHER than the weapons looks amazing IMO. The maps look awesome (all 3 that we saw so far have distinct and pretty looks with great skyboxes even though they’re all internal small maps). I also love how the armor looks now- they fixed the problem I had with the look of Halo 4’s armor (the bright coloring and the undersuit) as well as making it a bit more bulky (yet still slim and maneuverable). What remains to be seen is the armors available. I’m kind of disappointed to see so many of Halo 4’s helmets return, but I want to see the full assortment available in the beta before I even think of complaining. I like how the helmet in the first Beta trailer looks, and that’s new.
In terms of sound design, you shouldn’t worry. These things are bound to change in time. As long as you voice your opinion throughout the Beta and gain support, 343i are bound to change the sounds. Most of them are likely placeholders anyway. It’s a bit early for 343i to have all the finalized sound effects available.

Oh No …please…please , Remember the Fail of Reach. It is the only way to prevent repeating the same mistakes.

although bungie is good with art and destiny is one of the best looking art in a game.
343 halo has much better art, you are a one off who thinks bungies art was better then 343s
bungie had smooth, human ish art
343 has more mechanic, alien art something that fits halo very well.
Seems like you have absolutely no consideration for the evolution of the lore and world building. No way a saga that spans across multiple games can get away re-using the same objects, sounds and technology. Specially when you change locations.
The Art of Halo 5 is incredible, as was Halo 4’s. Its pure scifi -Yoink-
Things have to change. Its the natural evolution of the games story, characters, and world. The BR for example is still the same weapon. It still fires a 3 round burst but some of its handling characteristics have evolved to keep pace with the game. Im not sure what reticle you are talking about but it looks the same to me aside from the new smart scope feature which is something I have been wanting since halo 2.
