Who would be Halo 5’s antagonist?
The way its sounding you start as Locke. I think Jul M’adama will be because MC is going after Halsey to get Cortana remade or something.

Thats mere speculation, not to be confused as fact. If the Ark theory is true, which seems more and more likely, then i don’t think he’s be going near Halsey, just yet.
I believe the Didact will play a role, in some shape or from, however i think the main enemy will be Jul. I also think it will deal more with Chief’s mental state, and the possible re-emergence of the Flood, more than anything. I would say the Janus Key, but i don’t know if Chief’s story aligns with that timeline just yet.
Jul 'Mdama and the Didact, easily. But there’s a few complications…
-
According to the Universe Pseudo-encyclopedia on Waypoint, the Didact was composed in the end of The Next 72 Hours. That said, although Frank O’Connor (verification needed) has confirmed that the Didact will play a role in Halo 5, he has lost his organic form and is now a digital essence. We will have to refer to him as the Digidact.
-
Despite only 12 issues being planned, Escalation is far from ogre. In fact, we know of three more non-leaked issues that focus on the Janus Key conflict (13-15). Whether or not this will conclude the conflict with Jul or simply escalate it is not known, but hopefully it will be the latter of the two.
On the subject of Halo 5 itself, if we see Jul 'Mdama appear as a main antagonist, I’d like to see his character develop rather than be killed-off. And by develop, I mean that I want to see his alliance with Halsey result in him lifting his hatred of humans as an entire species and realizing that the xenophobic actions of ONI do not speak for all of mankind.

Didact hes not dead. maybe Jul 'Mdama too
Didact was composed in Halo: Escalation
If he is alive still, it will only be in a digitized environment.
I think it would be a VERY INTERESTING twist to have John and Halsey forge a fragile alliance with Jul and his faction to fight against ONI. Afterall, ONI is starting to look like the real antagonists here, and it could lead to a battle between John and Jameson.
I really don’t want to see Jul 'Mdama killed in H5, but rather something causing his remnant to join the Swords of Sanghelios for the sake of surviving a more significant threat (prelude to a massive Flood vs all sentient species battle).
There are a few possible antagonists. One of the things I’d like to point out first is how both Agent Locke, and Master Chief are playable characters, and therefore will have different stories with different antagonists. Before I discuss the separate antagonists for both Agent Locke and Master Chief, I want to talk about antagonists that they may share.
One is Jul M’adama. The well known Covenant terrorist from Halo: Spartan Ops. He could be for to both Locke and Chief. He is foe to Locke since Locke is aligned with the UNSC, specifically ONI. Who as we know are at war with the Covenant that M’adama leads. The Master Chief has already caused problems for M’adama, and he’s really done anything that would work in M’adamas favor. Although Chief may want to get closer to him due to M’adamas alignment with Dr. Halsey.
Although he seems to be nothing but ash due to the event of, Halo: Escalation. The Didact is still a candidate. Master CHief himself said he believes the Didact has only been contained. As he told Lord Hood during his report of the events on Installation 03, (I think it was, Lord Hood. I may be wrong.) It also seems like a waste to me not to use the Didact anymore. Anybody who read the Greg Bear Forerunner novels knows that Didact is quite the big deal. I also don’t think he wasn’t as well realized in Halo 4 as he could have been. So I want more done with him. Also anybody who hasn’t read the Greg Bear novels, or just wants to learn more about the Didact, do it.
This one is my personal hope, Mendicant Bias. The ancient Forerunner AI designed to fight the Flood, and then defected to their side. With the terminals in Halo 3, as well as his backstory given in the Greg Bear novels, and that mysterious Forerunner ship in the original H5:G trailer, I think he’s a perfect pick. I still believe he’s around, and with the importance of Chief and AI’s I think he’s prime picking. He may actually be an ally. But he has a bad past, so he could be an antagonist.
So who could be Locke’s antagonist? Well the obvious one is Master Chief. If you ask me he’s foe, why? Because friend is boring. Plus the UNSC, specifically ONI doesn’t seem to jazzed about Chief being back. I also believe Halsey could be Lockes enemy. If Jul M’adama is Locke’s enemy, and Halsey is allied with M’adama now, then it seems logical she’s be working against him. Plus she is pissed about the end of Spartan Ops.
But what about Chief himself. So I’ll say it now, Agent Locke. He’s trying to bring Chief back into the UNSC, and I don’t believe Chief seems to keen on that. Another enemy of Chief is the UNSC itself. They don’t seem to happy that he’s back, and I don’t believe their leaders want him around. But Chiefs biggest enemy is himself. At the end of Chiefs story in, Halo: Escalation, he is said to be a man trying to destroy himself. His sanity can also be put into question. He’s been emotionally rocked due to the loss of Cortana, and he’s confronting things he’s never had to before. This could have hurt him mentally, but I doubt it.
The Gravemind?
all we really know is it has something to do with big bird

Yoinking amen to this and the time it took him to write it, nice read bro!
I hope the Gravemind makes an apperance in Halo 5
Why they would decide to leave a giant triple A game on somewhat of a cliffhanger with it’s villain and then choose to resolve it in a comic series that the vast majority of Halo players will never read baffles me.
quick time events
Anything that isn’t Covenant, their fight is already finished, we just have to clean up their remnant mess.

When the Covenant is only a few buttons away from having access to every Forerunner artifact in existence, it’s extremely difficult for me to say that “their fight is already finished” without laughing.
I think Jul needs more spotlight to properly show the covenant isn’t the old covenant.

Look, I’d rather they just be side enemies in the Reclaimer Saga.
I believe that we will have one of two situations will then have branches of there own. One is the way we play. Ex: play MC’s story, or play AL’s story. Two could be a back and fowrth type like in halo 2. My point is that if my first theory is correct then it’s who ever you side agents, if my second theory is correct then it will most Likly be both or neither. From what we know, ONI is chasing Cheif cause he when traitor. That means that ONI and all there power could make him look bad, lock may even take “evil” steps to accomplish his mission. One or the other. There are so many theory’s I have in mind.
ONI. Obviously there will be some misguided conflicts amongst the likes of Jul and the Covenant remnant, the UNSC, Locke, Chief etc, but ONI is definitely behind alot of the chaotic -Yoink- going on. So ONI for now, and then eventually the Flood will reprise their role as the “main enemy” by the end of the game or by halo 6. Just my opinion of course.
Take a wild guess from any of these:
The Flood & The Gravemind
The Storm Covenant
The Didact and/or Forerunners
ONI
Mendicant Bias and/or other rampant AIs (such as Cortana)
Innies
