Obeast Spartan’s video pretty much sums it all up. He proves a lot of valid points to why Halo isn’t like CoD and how Halo is still pretty much Halo. Honestly I think there is really no reason at all to compare the two games. They are both completely different.
People want to hate this game so no amount of reason is going to stop them. They’re going to come to the forums of a video game they do not like just to trash talk the game (I can only assume they do this with every game they hate because … well, when I don’t like a game, I certainly don’t hang around on their forums) because they want people to care what they think.
So this thread will probably get buried quickly under a pile of utter nonsense so quickly you may not even see this reply.
When a video game franchise gets to be this old you’re going to have people turning their nose up at it. It happened to me with CoD, but again, if people want to enjoy that game, I let them; I don’t go trash talk on their forums.

I think people these days forget what the whole point of playing video games are… and that’s to just have fun. They take it waaaay to seriously. If I don’t like a game I won’t try to shove it down people’s throats and tell people they should hate it because I do. I really enjoyed Halo 5 and I had a blast playing it for the 20+ hours I did play.
The purists and old guard still think the game is changing too much. I think this game still plays faster than Halo should. There’s nothing wrong with speedy gameplay, but Halo was also about outhinking your opponent at the same time and with the tiny arena maps that’s pretty hard especially with people sprinting and thrustering everywhere.
I would have liked to see BTB, but from the looks of it I won’t be buying Halo 5 at launch or I’ll buy it used.

that’s the problem Halo used to be the pinnacle of E-sports so a lot of this community is competitive. People can play games to be either way OP. Some people have more fun by competing. Now granted my mood switches off and on which is why I loved Halo 3s system but some people do experience games differently. That’s what these forums are for.

This may shock you, but lots of people don’t find this game to be as FUN as the older ones. They want their definition of fun, not yours. If everyone on these forums would empathize with each other a little more we would all be happier.
> I do not need people to tell me what the similarity or difference between Halo and COD, I played the two games and saw a lot of similarity, unfortunately!
The game now has COD aim down sights. Complete with spread reduction, accuracy bonuses and headshot bonus damage with autos.
Its COD gun fighting. It’s not cosmetic ads at all. A total betrayal from Josh Holmes who lies through his teeth.
i’m tired of games in general all ways being compared to cod. As far as i know crysis 2 did the ground pound thing first, and yet cod is giving the credit, crysis did the clambering/mantling on to objects first but cod is giving the credit, same thing goes for the sliding ability crysis did it first. Am i saying that halo is a bit like crysis now, in a way but that’s good, because one thing i like about crysis is that you get the experience of being in the nano suit, and now in halo 5 you get the experience of being in the mjioner armor

Halo CE was released before COD,
Halo set the impact on FPS.
Also if you say Halo 5 Guardians is not like COD, you apparently need to go through a full generation of Halo game-play starting from Halo CE.
Halo 5 Guardians is a lot like COD from the aiming to the gestures to the firing and everything else.

I was thinking of the same thing! Halo needs to stop being compared to cod, there are many other games that have similarities to halo. Did anyone thing of comparing it to section 8?

Funny, after playing AW for an hour, the ADS in that game felt nothing like halo 5’s SS.

The question shouldn’t be so much about if “classic” Halo can sell well. The focus should be on why is it not possible to develop a game built on the same kind of principles. And then the follow-up question should be, what good does it do to turn Halo into a modern standard shooter that conforms to the trends of its release period instead of trying to innovate on top of its own identity.
So if the question was can Halo sell well if it was built on its foundational principles rather than conforming to the trends in the industry right now… I say yes it would sell well. And it would attract even more attention to the franchise if it went that route instead. The market 343 is trying to target is already over-saturated. People not interested in Halo, non-XBox gamers and non-FPS gamers are not going to excited for a FPS that now plays even more similar to the alternatives. Halo’s core gameplay always allowed for a different kind of experience and attracted all kinds of gamers, including non-FPS gamers. A Halo built on its traditional principles on a new generation console had potential to get everyone excited, not just Halo or XBox supporters. It could have re-introduced a style of gameplay that has been missing in the FPS genre for quite some time.
Traditional arena shooters as we know them tend to fail on consoles. The speed of the gameplay makes it uncomfortable with a controller compared to keyboard/mouse. Halo CE found a way to make an “arena” shooter on consoles based on steady aim and shot-making consistency. Due to this slightly more methodical approach, Halo became a great game for tactical play and team play as well and was more than just a standard arena shooter. Halo was its own rare breed. Other traditional arena elements still remained in Halo as well though. The ability to shoot while moving at all times and a specific zooming mechanism allowed for gameplay to flow and have fluidity were staples in Halo. Making twitch less important allowed for Halo to work much better with a controller. Halo 2 and Halo 3 were both built on the same kind of principles. Each game felt different, but each still felt like Halo.
343 has decided to homogenize Halo 5 and make it play similar to other trendy shooters. This doesn’t mean its a clone or doesn’t have Halo elements, but the totality of the experience is very similar to other games. What I am talking about goes beyond some of the new mechanisms or visual animations, but the totality of the experience. Many of the tactical elements have been reduced. On a casual level, Halo 5 aims to provide mental stimulation through its “loudness” of gameplay rather than having the mental stimulation come from the thought of the player.
343 seems to have a lack of basic understanding of the fundamentals of Halo. No one is saying we need to have a clone of Halo 2 or Halo 3. No one is saying that innovation is not possible. Some of our criticisms are about how the specific mechanisms 343 has decided to adopt and integrate into Halo 5 are from a fundamentally different style of shooter. The mechanisms work much more naturally in twitch-aim and spray shooters. For the record, they also are from non-arena shooters as well. So now what we have in Halo 5 is more of a hot-mess. When you put the controller down, you will say “wow that was intense.” But on a casual level, the gameplay experience is much more shallow
This is what Halo “purists” mean by its like CoD.
Not my post
I feel the same after playing Halo 5 as I do playing CoD. It’s by no means a bad game. Just not the deepest or most thought provoking. The right move always feels kind of obvious and thrusters allow you to undo the wrong move. Cool game. The required thought process just isn’t deep enough for me.
I don’t know.
During H3 when I would switch between H3 and COD4/MW2 there was an adjustment period where I would have to get used to the different feel and mechanics.
Switching between the H5 beta and AW, not so much. They play pretty similarly.

That video is
- A parody
- Released long before the beta
- Based purely on trailers.

No doubt that the differences are fewer and fewer. Kind of a raw deal for all FPS fans.

Ya know, I have heard so many things from 343i that are contradicted by the actual game they are talking about. Maybe they really just don’t know. lol ~ Too many cooks in the kitchen.
